GM Franchise -- Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 and beyond...
Re: GM Franchise -- Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 and beyond...
Tough game for the Jags. Seems like they just ran into a brick wall and only managed 36 yards on the ground. Not much better results through the air You'll bounce back, excited to see what happens in the offseason!

Yeah, you could see this one coming... after Fournette when down in the Chargers game, they lost 3 of their last 4. The playoff game vs. KC was pretty ugly. Could not run the ball and could not protect Minshew. Looks like o-line and an upgrade at back-up HB will be a few of the top priorities during the off-season!

Major Off-Season Moves Plus a Pandemic = Uncertainty in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE -- After a surprisingly successful 2019 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made sweeping changes to their roster during the off season. When asked why the Jaguars would make such drastic changes after a playoff season, GM Dave Caldwell said, “we understood that significant salary cap issues were on the horizon and made the decision that now was the time to address those issues, we had to make some tough calls but they will benefit the future of the franchise.” Part of those decisions were to either release or trade some of the team’s top starters. The most significant deals saw CB A.J. Bouye, DE Calais Campbell, DE Yannick Ngakoue and QB Nick Foles all traded for draft picks. Certainly the most surprising of the group was the deal sending Foles to Chicago after only spending one injury-plagued season in Jacksonville. Certainly the encouraging 2019 play of QB Gardner Minshew helped to make that decision somewhat easier. The 2020 draft saw the Jaguars address the departure of star players like Bouye, Ngakoue and Campbell, with the addition of 1st round picks CB C.J. Henderson (Florida) and DE K’Lavon Chaisson (LSU). The team is also excited about the addition of 2nd round pick WR Laviska Shenault (Colorado) a 6’1” speedster who scored 10 TDs during his last two seasons in Boulder. The challenge now will be to incorporate those rookies into the starting line-up with little in-person practice and no pre-season games due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “It has been very different and a struggle,” said coach Doug Marrone in reference to the NFL’s pandemic protocols. “But we believe we are meeting this challenge and are excited to take the field at home for week one,” said Marrone. The Jaguars will kick-off the 2020 NFL season at TIAA Bank Field this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Phillip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts.

Minshew and the Jags Struggling Through Five Games
JACKSONVILLE -- Is the honeymoon over in Jacksonville? After a completely unexpected rookie season, Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew may be in the midst of a sophomore slump. During last season's playoff run, Minshew had a TD to interception ratio of 25-9 and a passer rating of 94.8. Through five games of the 2020 season, Minshew has thrown only 5 TDs, with 3 interceptions and a passer rating of 89.1. Perhaps more concerning is that the Jaguars have started 2-3, in 2019 the Jags didn't lose their third game until week 15. Putting the team's early 2020 struggles solely on Minshew is not fair however as the team jettisoned a number of talented players during an off-season salary cap purge. But that purge happened primarily on the defensive side of the ball while the offensive line and most of Minshew's weapons remained on the roster. "We will get things worked out, I'm confident of that," said Minshew after Sunday's 23-16 loss in Houston. One silver lining is that the rest of the AFC South has also gotten out of the gate slowly. The Texans are 3-2, but the rest of the teams in the division are all sitting at 2-3. "I'll keep looking at the roster and see what changes we may need to make, no one's job is secure," said coach Doug Marrone. Next up for the Jaguars will be a visit from Matt Stafford and the 2-2 Detriot Lions who head to Jacksonville on a two game win streak. Kick-off at TIAA Bank Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
Shots from Week 1-5:

The Jags D makes a late 4th down stop to preserve an upset win over the Titans
Thursday Night Football kicks-off in Jacksonville!
DE Josh Allen sacks Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa
Jags rookie RB James Robinson with a stiff arm during the win vs. the Dolphins
The Jags D got pushed around in Cincy
Rookie Joe Burrow and the Bengals put up 30 during their win
WR Keelan Cole scores during week 5 at Houston
Texans QB Deshaun Watson gets into the endzone late to secure the win for Houston
