Anchorage Blizzard in the FI Football League

Week 5 update

For the Blizzard, the first three weeks went smoothly. But then there was some trouble in paradise against the Ironmen: though Anchorage routed their rivals, there were a lot of kinks that will have to be ironed out. Greg Bridgewater threw 3 interceptions, and Bryce Elliott was struggling without Tony Gilmore getting some of the attention. Elliott did score a TD, but his stats were disappointing considering the amount of times he was targeted (two of which resulting in picks).

The game against the Kingfish was the closest so far. It could have gone either way. But Casey Mount won it for the Kingfish with a field goal as time expired.

Bridgewater is producing in the yards and TDs departments, but has already thrown 5 TD in 5 games so far. Bam Stevens is finding his pace as a dual-threat running back. Bryce Elliott is not producing as well as expected offensively, but he is on a special teams streak with 8 TDs (4 kicks and 4 punts) so far.

Marcus Windt has 17 sacks and 2 interceptions as the leader of the defense. Rashaan Harris is an effective player opposite him, and Mitch Jackson is finally starting to get some production. Rookie MLB Brad Middleton has done well in limited time.

Blair Rainey already has 4 interceptions and 3 touchdowns (149 return yards).

Leonardo Reynolds scores a 94-yard TD. He finishes the day with 154 yards and 2 TDs.

Harrison almost drops the ball but makes it to the endzone.


The Kingfish make mistakes early on. A fumble, then this pick-six by Rainey.


But they claw back into the game, partly thanks to this 88-yard TD by TE John Aiken, the longest of his career.





Donald Jean-Francois has mostly played on special teams. You may remember his special teams TD many moons ago that helped sink the Blizzard. This year, he finally won a starting job, and he rewards his coaches with this TD.


As of right now, the Apocalypse (4-0), Snowcats (4-0) and Vortices (5-0) are unbeaten. The RailRiders are 4-1 after dropping their game against the Ironmen. The Bison, Blizzard, Vipers, Phantoms, Wallabies and Defenders have only dropped one game.

Week 16 recap

Before we wrap up the season, we must report on the week 16 matchup between the Apocalypse and the Blizzard, which was by far the most exciting of the season.

New York was slow to start, letting Anchorage build a 28-0 lead. Bam Stevens ran it in from 14 and 48 yards away, Mike Kearse caught a 25-yard TD pass and Khairi Weeden returned an interception on 62 yards.




Matt McPhee finally puts his team on the board with a 60-yard TD reception.



Bryce Elliott catches a 73-yard TD pass, but Matt Gordon returns the ensuing kickoff on 94 yards for the score.

A Glenn Harrison TD reception and a Stanley Franklin field goal later, it is 42-17 at the half.

McPhee scores again to open the 2nd half, then Ron Burton returns a interception into the endzone.



Leonardo Reynolds scores on 41 yards, but McPhee has his 3rd TD of the day on 61 yards.



Zac Ansah powers his way into the endzone to keep his team's hopes alive.



Elliott returns the ensuing kickoff on 101 yards for the score, then Anchorage regains possession.

However, Kendall Mangold sacks Greg Bridgewater for the safety.



TE Casey Allen catches a short pass and makes it into the endzone.



It is 56-53 Anchorage at this point. The Blizzard has possession deep in their own zone when LeGarrette Mihalik surges into the backfield and records a safety.



The Apocalypse marches down the field and Ansah scores on a 1-yard run to give his team the 5-point advantage.

The Blizzard has time to mount a comeback, but Kendall Roberts cuts it short with this interception.

Season 94 recap

The Blizzard tied the Phantoms in the final week to finish 13-2-1. This was enough to edge the 13-3 Kingfish atop the division, and to get the #2 seed behind the 15-1 Apocalypse. Despite their star-studded roster, the RailRiders disappointed. They did deal New York their only loss, and win their division, but they finished just 10-6.

This year, the MVP and OPOY awards were split. Greg Bridgewater was named MVP, while Bam Stevens received OPOY honors after rushing for more than 2000 yards and adding 1000+ yards in receptions.

Marcus Windt won the DPOY award with his 53 sacks, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries. Blair Rainey also had a great year with 12 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.

Bryce Elliott's production decreased on offense but increased on special teams. Still trying to find the right balance to optimize production.

Playoffs recap

We were unsure what to expect from the game against the Ironmen. Pittsburgh had been shut out by Anchorage in the regular season, but had found a way to force their opponent into several mistakes.

Clinton Ott gave his team a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter. But Tyler Pullard kicked the field goal to send Anchorage to the AFC championship game.

The Apocalypse made sure to score on their first drive, with Stanley Franklin kicking a short field goal to open the score.

The Blizzard tried long passes early on, but Ike Swan had other plans.



Franklin would boot two more field goals in the half. Anchorage's reply came with short TD passes to Daryl DiMarco and Leonardo Reynolds.

New York finally scored a TD just before retreating to the locker room, when Matt McPhee brought a 68-yard pass into the endzone.



Zac Ansah gained yardage in the first half, but was kept out of the endzone. He remedied that at the start of the 3rd quarter when he had this powerful 24-yard TD run.




Then in the 4th, he escaped to score this 67-yard TD.



Bam Stevens scored on a 17-yard run, then Bryce Elliott had a 92-yard punt return TD to give Anchorage the lead.




However, in the last minute, Ryan Winston connected with Ryan Tunsil for a 75-yard TD.



Anchorage could not recover.

The Super Bowl game was held in Miami between the Apocalypse and the Defenders.

After a scoreless first quarter, Dannell Acker threw short TD passes to Patrick Ealy and Terron Daniels. Ethan Robinson kicked a 34-yard field goal to make it 17-0 at the half.

Brent Norton had a 3-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter. Then New York finally replied in the 4th when Matt McPhee made his way into the endzone. However, it was too little too late. Final score: Defenders 24, Apocalypse 7.

Overall, it was a great year for RevanFan, owner of the Apocalypse and Defenders. On top of New York beating the Blizzard twice, RevanFan's teams combined for just 3 regular season losses and faced each other in the Super Bowl.

Week 13 update

I will do a more proper update at the end of the season, with screenshots as usual. But I thought I would drop by to say this season has been fantastic so far. But it's too early to celebrate, as the last stretch will be challenging, including two tilts against the Kingfish, who, like the Blizzard, are still unbeaten.

Bam Stevens is on pace to shatter the 3000 yards from scrimmage, and is in the lead for the MVP award. Greg Bridgewater has been distributing the ball well, with 4 receivers (including Stevens) between 12 and 15 TDs.

Defensively, Rashaan Harris has been phenomenal, pushing to improve on Rodney Fox's season of 50 sacks, 7 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles and 4 offensive TDs. Harris currently has 50 sacks, 6 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 3 TD receptions from 3 different passers.

Bryce Elliott is doing great on special teams, with 16 total TDs (7 kicks, 9 punts) in 12 games.

Sorry, I have probably missed this but, what is the reason why you have 4 Full Backs?
Also, what is the LB/CB position? Is that a CB/Safety that plays LB versus TEs and Slot Receivers?
