How does your All-NFL roster looks?

Postby jose21crisis » Mon Jan 13, 2020 6:43 pm

So, 100 years of the NFL. The NFL's been putting out A LOT of "Top 100" stuff (Including the ... Uhhh ... Top 100 players list), but I don't think they have build an ... let's call it "All-NFL Roster". So I decided, hey why not build one, see what people think about it and how they would put their rosters. I'll be adding a Practice Squad, just because I want more players. So, here's my roster.

Code: Select all

QB
1. Peyton Manning
2. Joe Montana
3. Johnny Unitas
Hoping this list isn't controversial because ... "him" ... isn't on this list is futile.

RB
1. Barry Sanders
2. Walter Payton
3. Emmitt Smith
4. LaDainian Tomlinson
It was either LT or Marshall Faulk for the 4th, modern era spot. Also, no FBs.

WR
1. Jerry Rice
2. Randy Moss
3. Terrell Owens
4. Larry Fitzgerald
5. Calvin Johnson
6. Cris Carter
Fact, I wanted to throw in Devin Hester just as a returner but ... Nah, Cris Carter to round out the WR Corps is better.
Also, I NEARLY throw in Wes Welker (AKA the original slot receiver) but ... Carter, and there's someone else in the PS.

TE
1. Rob Gronkowski
2. Tony Gonzalez
3. Kellen Winslow
I wanted to say Gates here ... well, PS it is.

OT
1. Anthony Munoz
2. Jonathan Ogden
3. Joe Thomas
4. Orlando Pace
Had to do my research for linemen.

G
1. John Hannah
2. Bruce Matthews
3. Larry Allen
4. Steve Hutchinson

C
1. Jim Otto
2. Dermontti Dawson

DE
1. Reggie White
2. Bruce Smith
3. J.J. Watt
4. Deacon Jones

DT
1. Joe Greene
2. Warren Sapp
3. Aaron Donald
4. John Randle
I'll stop right here to wonder why the NFL simply decided to ignore both Watt and Donald in their lists, considering they have both been otherworldly

LB
1. Ray Lewis
2. Lawrence Taylor
3. Jack Lambert
4. Derrick Brooks
5. Jack Ham
6. Mike Singletary
7. Junior Seau

CB
1. Rod Woodson
2. Mel Blount
3. Deion Sanders
4. Champ Bailey
5. Darrelle Revis
6. Richard Sherman

S
1. Ed Reed
2. Troy Polamalu
3. Ronnie Lott
4. Brian Dawkins
I was eager to throw a few Steelers into the list, there's defense for that.

K
1. Justin Tucker
Adam Vinatieri sure has the more established history, but Tucker has been so amazing that putting Vinatieri over him would be a crime.

P
1. Ray Guy
This is simple, right?

That's my 53 man roster. As for my Practice Squad.

Code: Select all

1. Drew Brees, QB
2. Marshall Faulk, RB.
3. Julio Jones, WR.
4. Antonio Gates, TE.
5. Jim Parker, G/T
6. Michael Strahan, DE
7. Alan Page, DT
8. Derrick Thomas, LB
9. Charles Woodson, CB
10. Emlen Tunnell, S

We've yet to see a QB being as dominant as that future HOFer
And no, not those two. The one I'm talking about already retired ...
We've yet to see a WR being as dominant as that guy that won't make the HOF.

Charles Woodson was royally screwed. Truly one of the worst screw jobs of all-time.

EASILY a top 5 corner, arguably top 3.

I thought they did well on the list overall, but that was complete horse crap.

Should have just done an Anniversary team though. The way they built 100 with the special teamers took the place of more worthy and deserving players.

There were MANY players that got screwed out of the top 100. LaDainian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, Terrell Owens (your milage may vary), Antonio Gates, Joe Thomas, Michael Strahan, Derrick Thomas, Charles Woodson ... The list goes on, although most are modern era players.

The NFL was better off doing a decades all time players because I can't see players from the 20's competing with players with the 70's let alone with today's players.

But we'll never know what those guys would be able to do with todays training methods, and "supplements"

I think guys like Butkus, Jim Brown would dominate any era they played in. And you can never account for the effort guys like Nitchke or Kramer would have done.

Don Hutson still holds records.. records that won't be broken from the looks of it. Its been nearly 100 years since he played.

We just don't know. I don't think its fair to write them off.

But they should have just done an anniversary team.

This 100 bit was obnoxious and not very well done, considering the honor this should have been.

No one is writing them off as they would be recognized in the era they played in.

The problem is that you're asking today's era to compile a list from an era they never experienced. If you notice most lists reference more players from current eras than earlier eras. That to me is writing them off.

Now if you did a decades list then it would be more fair and balanced and today's cry baby players would shut up and be happy their bank accounts are bigger than most of the fans that attended their games.

Where is Roger Staubach and Eric Dickerson? O.J Simpson? Earl Campbell! Lynn Swan maybe? Dan Marino was the best pure passing QB ever to play the sport! I get my list in order later!
