Buying a Computer for Madden 08 or Madden 19

Postby MCCraeFresh » Mon Aug 06, 2018 12:55 am

Good evening folks,

For the previous year and a half, I was playing Madden 08 on a MacBook Pro. However, once I upgraded to High Sierra, my mouse became screwed up (I won't waste anyone's time with that story but if you want to check it out, here's the thread.

http://www.footballidiot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20363.

Anyways, since the game is practically unplayable on my MacBook Pro, I am looking to buy a new computer that will play either Madden 08 or the new Madden 19 game. MacBook Pro (at least to my experience) is extremely limited on the modding you can do, and the stuff that I see in these forums seems really cool. The possibilities become endless.

TL;DR - looking for new or old PC that will run at least Madden 08 in case Madden 19 is garbage (which I hope it's not).

Well... considering 19 isn't the heaviest game, I'd say find something that meets the recommended requirements for Madden 19. They're not that hefty. If you want the best value, you'd want to buy the parts and build it yourself, but prebuilt computers are an option.

You'll want to have Windows 10, as 19 is built for Windows 10, and 08 will run on 10 provided you use calhoupe's scripts.

where do you live, my desktop computer is for sale due to moving away.

If I were you I'd wait till 19 is released and see if it's any good - knowing EA it could turn out to be a worthless pile of dogpoop.

There are improvements that could be made to the game but overall the game is a winner...... go for it......

Do I need Calhoupe's scripts to run it on Windows 10?

I said that in my post, yes. 19 obviously doesn't need that, but 08 does.

The recommended specs have an AMD Radeon R9 270X, which is a bit better than the R7 240. It would meet the minimum though.

I'd highly recommend adding an SSD, or swapping the HDD for an SSD if you can't have both. Booting off of an SSD rather than an HDD is the single best thing you can do for the speed of your computer. Honestly, you could probably keep whatever HDD you currently have and use a small SSD just for booting. Is your current HDD 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM, and how much space does it hold?

The best SSDs are by Samsung. The 860 Evo, 960 EVO, etc. Great drives.
