Jonathan's 2018 NFL Mock Draft

Postby ycleped » Thu Apr 26, 2018 5:04 pm

After spending the last 3 hours on this I went to post it and found out it said I "wasn't logged in" so I lost all the paragraphs I typed up for each player...... This is what I've got at this point. (Edit - adding in short sentences to somewhat explain.)

1. Browns: QB Sam Darnold – USC

Mayfield smokescreen - Darnold best pick.

2. Giants: DE Bradley Chubb – NC State

Gettleman loves defensive line and built the Panthers first. Plenty of RB talent later in the draft and Chubb has received comparisons to Myles Garrett. I really like him and they lost JPP so they can't afford to not take Chubb.

3. Jets: QB Baker Mayfield – Oklahoma

Seems like Jets are sold on Mayfield. Rosen better pick here but Mayfield might fit better in NY. Reminds me of Namath a bit with his grittyness.

4. Browns: HB Saquon Barkley – Penn State

Browns would be nuts to pass on this and it would basically complete their offense.

5. Bills (trade through Broncos): QB Josh Rosen – UCLA

Rosen pro-ready and best plug and chug for a team that has a solid core and just made it to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.

6. Colts: OG Quenton Nelson – Notre Dame

Let's play a game called "stop Andrew Luck from dying for the 15th time and fight the urge to draft a WR in the 1st round for the 30th time"!

7. Buccaneers: S Derwin James – FSU

Surprise! I like James better than Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick less likely to bust and more NFL ready, but James is more athletic and a proactive team leader and is 6'3 compared to Minkah who is 6'1. James can play in the box and aggressively while Fitzpatrick is more like a Tyrann Mathieu.

8. Bears: EDGE Marcus Davenport – UTSA

You might think this is a reach but it fits Vic Fangio's scheme - Davenport is best pick: 6'7, great edge pass rusher.

9. 49ers: LB Roquan Smith – Georgia

9ers want to solidify their LB corps. They won't pass on Roquan Smith who although slightly undersized has extreme athletic ability and a high motor.

10. Raiders: T Mike McGlinchey – Notre Dame

Jon Gruden gets his protection for Derek Carr - the future replacement for Donald Penn.

11. Dolphins: TE Mike Gesicki – Penn State

Lost Landry and Julius Thomas. The Fins need a nightmare matchup and Gesicki is just that. Although this is somewhat of a reach I believe a lot of teams are much higher on him than we think. Ultimately it adds a great offensive weapon.

12. Broncos (through Bills): CB Denzel Ward - OSU
13. Redskins: CB Josh Jackson – Iowa
14. Packers: EDGE Harold Landry – Boston College
15. Cardinals: QB Josh Allen – Wyoming
16. Ravens: WR Courtland Sutton – SMU
17. Chargers: DT Vita Vea – Washington
18. Seahawks: S Minkah Fitzpatrick – Alabama
19. Cowboys: WR Calvin Ridley – Alabama
20. Lions: LB Tremaine Edmunds
21. Bengals: C Frank Ragnow – Arkansas
22. Broncos: G Isiah Wynn – UGA
23. Patriots: LB Rashaan Evans – Alabama
24. Panthers: CB Jaire Alexander – Louisville
25. Titans: DE Josh Sweat – FSU
26. Falcons: DT Da’Ron Payne – Alabama
27. Saints: QB Mason Rudolph – Oklahoma State
28. Steelers: S Justin Reid – Stanford
29. Jaguars: G Will Hernandez – UTEP
30. Vikings: C Billy Price – OSU
31. Patriots: T Kolton Miller – UCLA
32. Eagles: LB Leighton Vander Esch – Boise State

If you have questions regarding my thoughts on each pick feel free to ask but I'm not spending another two hours retyping everything.

I'll just post my notes here:

I agree that James is better than Fitzpatrick. I think Fitzpatrick will fall into the teens.
Gesicki at 11? Uh, nope. He's a second round talent in my book.
Tremaine Edmunds available at pick #20 isn't going to happen. Some teams are in love with him.
Nice, you have Rudolph at the end. I've done that in a few mock drafts.
