Player portrait mmap files should not have filenames. I believe this became the "usual" years ago when someone first made "HD" portraits and reused a 512x512 mmap file found elsewhere in the dat files. It may work, but it's wrong.
DEX was written before we know what we do now about the dat files, it's definitely possible that there is a read bug in there due to the unexpected file sizes introduced by customized dat files. That hd portrait pack has a couple oddball sizes in there... a 16x16 and a 384x384 not sure but that may have something to do with it as well.

Ok, here is the problem...It is file 2059. That file is breaking the reader and you will continue to have problems with DEX if you leave it as is.
Replace it with 96x96 (or 512x512 if you feel it is necessary)

What would be the best way to replace it? For me, 2059 says "Abnormal", but 2058 says " 256 Color". When I try to import a 96x96 dds over 2059, the editor crashes. For 2058, I can import a new portrait over it fine, but if I switch to a different ID and back, I get this and can't import over any higher IDs:

Remember to add 2 if you use DFR. So for 2058 which has the cyberface, it is in 2060.

File 2059 in DFR with arrays set at 0... (filesize of the one you want to replace is 148636)

Your downloaded version is incorrect because I have v8.55.0109.1800 and it works fine.

Hi. I am new. I just started following this. I have downloaded everything and I am up to the point where I use photoshop on the .png. Photoshop CS2 is asking for a serial number. Was it free at one point? I don't know how to get that information. I looked at the new Photoshop but it is expensive. Can anyone help?
