Hey guys, I get a weird error message that I'm hoping someone can help me with?

"The instruction at 0x004229BD referenced memory at 0x01A801B9. The memory could not be read."

What I know so far:
  • I've got this error on 3 different occasions over the last week.
  • I've had it with and without Calhoupe's scripts running, so it's not that.
  • It's not any memory address referenced by the .tpf's I use, and in fact the memory address is actually way lower than any address used by TexMod, so I don't think it's caused by that. (I must try one time without TexMod to make absolutely sure tho.)
  • I've only ever got this message while I'm on defense (although 3 different scenarios, different ends of the field, and on defense on each of the 2 teams. I have no idea if it could be roster-related as someone else did that for me, but my feeling is it's not.
  • I do have fan/cooling issues at the moment playing Madden so I think it may be more likely graphics-card-related tbh.

I did google of course and got various things about updating graphics drivers, running memtest, and performing sfc and disk-checker. But after doing those tests a few days ago, I got the 3rd error today (above). I also have an issue with windows update running a lot in the background while I'm playing Madden, which causes some slowdown in-game and high fan usage. I know my pc needs a good clean-out of dust so that'll be the next thing I do. I'm on Windows 10 btw.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this message before?

Hey y'all,

After much testing and note-taking, I've come to the conclusion that it's most likely Win10-related. I'm pretty good at testing things one at a time and ruling them out one-by-one, and for a while I thought it might have been related to my Norton. I added a line in Norton in the "Silent Mode" settings to always go "silent" whenever mainapp.exe is running, and I haven't had an error since! I've played multiple first halves of games, and even one full game all the way to the end without issue (nailbiting finish btw but I just about won! :D )

Anyhoo, I then remembered that the previous time I was on here modding (5 years ago), I had a different pc and was running win7 back then. So this is actually the first time I've ever played around with my mod in win10. I read some of the troubleshooting stuff on this board and remembered about running in compatibility mode (I used to run in xp mode on win7). I tried running mini-camp with my base mod (not really expecting it to work) and got a similar error message to the one above, but just with different addresses than above. I continued attempting mini-camp and got similar style of errors when I ran in win7 or vista mode. However, when I ran in XP SP3 mode, I got a different style of error message completely, which is what I now remember I used to see back in the day! :D

Compare the two:

So I'm not gonna try to problem-solve this any further, as I will continue running in compatibility mode for XP. When I have a bit of time, I may set up a dedicated partition just for Madden on an old XP install tho (with no anti-virus or internet). Just thought I'd post my progress here in case someone else comes across this!

Anyway, my A & N logos are 90% done (with my fav drop-shadow that I used to do!) but I had to re-read my notes to find out how I added the sheen effect! Turns out I used Photoshop JUST for that effect, so I'll have to download that next to finish them out! (I use Paint.NET exclusively for editing btw and FastStone Viewer for re-sizing, but never use Photoshop!)

This is the TAM-C logo with sheen effect (from Photoshop) and drop-shadow (from Paint.NET) just to show what I mean. It looks amazing on the team-blue, but when you see it on black, you'll notice the shadow disappears completely (intentionally!). This is the exact same image on 3 different colored backgrounds. Just showing this to kinda highlight where I'm at rn, but TAM-C won't be included in this release unfortunately! Maybe next time. ;)

Wow, I'm real happy with the way these A & N logos turned out so I gotta share! These are 3 identical A's & 3 identical N's on different colored backgrounds, all with same sheen and drop-shadow. Some subtle differences show thru tho, which I absolutely LOVE! :D

With the A on white, the top of the shield blends into the background, while the bottom (shadow) stands out. With the A on black, the shadow disappears completely. However, with the N on black, not only does the shadow disappear, but the top of the shield is lighter (from the sheen), while the bottom fades into the black! Of course, these effects wouldn't be fully noticeable in-game, cos there's never just one full single color behind it, but it means that the logos all have different ways of blending in or popping out. Bear in mind my goal here was to make something pretty out of what was quite a bland logo to begin with, so I'm REALLY happy with the way these look! (It's all 'bout the little details...)

So much fun!!

EDIT: I've just noticed I'm on 999 posts btw! It's only taken me 11 years, but I'm finally about to turn the corner! :D

Hey y'all, I'm still picking away at this; its' kinda nice that there's no deadline or pressure to finish it, but also kinda sad that no-one will prob ever use it! But hey, makes me happy anyway. :D

So I've just added a border wall that turned out way better than expected! :D

For anyone who's interested, I used my "red square test" that I've described here many years ago. Basically, I logged the default wall in TexMod which turned out to be a gray square-shape (128x128):

I then replaced that with a red square 256x256, leaving 1 pixel free around all 4 sides (and the center blank). In-game, the square is stretched out to cover a wider area:

I then zoom in as close and as straight as I can and take some screenshots, and measure manually in Paint.NET. In this instance, you can see that the red square is being stretched out horizontally in-game. I then found some brickwall clipart on the internet and chopped it to the new (wider) dimensions, so that it doesn't appear stretched in-game.

Finally, I had to manually edit the half-brick ends on each row to make them the same color (so they'd match up in-game), and added a kind of sheen on the top.

If anyone wishes to use this themselves feel free, but bear in mind in other stadiums it's very likely that the wall will be stretched to different proportions. Do the red square test first! :D

I've done everything I wanted to do with this and a good bit more! (sometimes even twice! ). So this is as best as I've ever done imo, and is kinda what I was hoping for with the intial release of my "NCAA 17 (FieldBuilder)" mod.

Anyway, I'll start a new thread for this release and explain what it is, what it is not, and how to install it. Will just take me another day or two to package it and upload. (Btw, I've played multiple full games and there are no more crashes.)

I really hope someone plays a full game on it and enjoys it as much as I did!

Peace out :D
