Single File Uniform Template (Madden 08)

Postby CLMCC » Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:13 pm

I came across this by accident. I inputted my dds uniform parts with DEX without generating the mipmaps needed. I found out what I had done when I opened the uni file in MUER 1.52 and saw all single files , no mips , no smaller files. Out of curiosity I loaded the uniform into the game to see what it would look like. To my surprise , it looked just like the other uniforms that had all the mipmaps.

In my desire to find out why the uniform file worked without the pre-made mips , I found many articles explaining it this way :

"Most game engines will create the mips automatically, if mips don't already exist in the texture file when it's loaded."

http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Mip_Mapping

I made it from a default game uniform , enlarged some files , and left the Palette non visualized.

Well , single file uniform templates seem to work. Here is mine , you can use it as a template and see if it works for you. It sure saved me a lot of time. I can use just one editor to create the whole uniform and only 24 inputs

Get the template here:

I use MUER 1.52 and indexed bmps with active alpha channel (when needed) with alphapal , especially numbers with a common palette. See here:

Well , let me know if it works for you , or if I have missed something.

Actually , with the larger sized numbers in the template (128x256) , they seem to look almost as good as the alphapal numbers at 64x128.

Woah. If this works how I think it does, then this is going to be really useful.

Just a reminder , when using Muer 1.52 , as well as all the MUER titles except MUER 1.3 , you must have a FULL PALLETTE with your bitmap or the file will be corrupt upon saving. All indexed bmp's from alphapal are always a full palette.

Well , it works for me. I am waiting to see if anyone else tries this and it works for them. It sure is faster and easier than using two editors and hex editing , just to complete a uniform file.

"paint.net" .tga's have been shown to be compatible with alphapal and produce the same indexed .bmp's.

So "paint.net" can be used instead of Photoshop CS2

GIMP also works with alphapal.

If on a transparent background just save it a tga. If not , you can delete the background and add an alpha channel.
