I sit here stunned beyond belief after Windows Update deleted my operating system.
Surreal. Speechless.
Worse, I can't find my recovery partition.

Hated it before this, I'm finished now.
This is ridiculous on every level.

I don't understand how that's even possible. I've never once heard of anything like that happening. In fact, I'm not even sure that's even possible. Are you absolutely certain you did nothing to interfere with the process, such as shutting down in the middle of an update?

That has nothing to do with "deleting the operating system." That simply gets your computer stuck in a boot loop. And Microsoft released an emergency Windows Update removing the Meltdown/Spectre fixes.
AaronS, have you tried booting into a flash drive of Windows 10 or Ubuntu and attempting to repair the startup/bootloader?

if you have a spare usb drive or hard drive create a windows to go/fresh windows install and put the old computer's hard drive as a slave to recover the partition or do what RevanFan suggested although from personal experience I know that repairing the boot usually does not work ....sometimes you get lucky...but most of the time you have to reinstall windows or repair the MBR some other way....

I did absolutely nothing, outside of the typical Windows Update procedure. No shutdown, no power loss.
I don't see how it's possible either. But I have no OS. I've tried all the boot methods. It ain't there.
My buddies in IT at the office are re-installing, and this sucker is history. Its a bummer, because I really like my laptop. If I could run Windows 7, I definitely would. But life is just too short for Windows 10.

You still can! Use a program called double driver portable and rip the drivers from windows 10 and then use NT lite to incorporate it into the windows install iso or after installing windows 7 ...use double driver to "restore the drivers".....
that is a way to have Windows 7 compatible drivers working in Windows 7 on your laptop or computer....

Also idk if you have the option but in windows 10 control panel for at least 30 days they allow you to "rollback" to the previous OS...." soemthign to see before giving up completely on your hard drive...."
also ISO buster is a good program to "recover data off both hard drives and scratched cd/dvd's" i highly recommend it.....may be worth a shot....I even bought the paid version because it is so good and useful.....
