You know, I really wanted to include this song, but it came in at #11 in the 60's for me. And I said I'd keep the list to 10. But I do love that song, and as you can probably see from my lists, the band. Bands I really love tend to have staying power on my lists.

I just watched the music video for this.

There is no way the guy in the video is the one who's singing. That doesn't look possible.

He's an Icelandic actor.

So what do you think of my lists? What are your personal top songs from each decade you know?

Because I've only ever heard it once or twice. I have to listen to a song enough for it to make an impact on me in one way or another.

Why don't you tell us your top 10's?

60's and 70's

Code: Select all

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
Baba O'Riley - The Who
Light my fire - The Doors
After the love is gone - Earth, Wind and Fire
Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
When I saw her standing there - The Beatles
Something - The Beatles
You've got to hide your love away - The Beatles
Beast of burden - Rolling Stones
Can't you hear me knocking - Rolling Stones
Maggie Mae - Rod Stewart
Rock with you - Michael Jackson
You really got me - Van Halen

Mostly before my lifetime, but some timeless stuff there.

.. I didn't omit Zepplin there. There are half-a-dozen songs I like equally.

1980's

Code: Select all

Human nature - Michael Jackson
Every rose has its thorn - Poison
Dead or alive - Bon Jovi
Hysteria - Def Leppard
Dreams - Van Halen
Alone - Heart
Don't dream its over - Crowded House
Heaven - Bryan Adams
With or without you - U2
Time after time - Cindy Lauper
Just a friend - Biz Markie

.. I could easily fill 25 there. It was an odd era for music, but there are at least 2 dozen songs that I would never be able to go without.

1990's

Code: Select all

Alive - Pearl Jam
Smells like teen spirit - Nirvana
Got me wrong - Alice In Chains
Unforgiven - Metallica
Wherever I may roam - Metallica
Nothin but a 'G' thing - Dre & Snoop
Big poppa - Notorious B.I.G.
Hunger strike - Temple of the Dog
When I come around - Green Day
Gin and juice - Snoop
Give it away - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
November rain - G'N'R
Right now - Van Halen
Friends in low places - Garth Brooks

.. honorable mention to Black Hole Sun. Just didn't stand the test of time for me.

Amazing memories there, particularly growing up in the Northwest during that era.

I was able to attend Lollapalooza in '92, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and the Chillis (Ice Cube as well) The best of that series, though I admit my bias. It was truly surreal. My girlfriend at the time got so worked up after the Chillis.. well.. lets just say I learned the power music can exert on ones life.

That line right there could be golden hollywood material for one of those romantic comedy type movies lol......"My girlfriend at the time got worked up over hearing the Chillis and well lets just say I learned the power music can exert on one's life" now 20 years later I got six kids with my wife (girlfriend from 92) and drive a minivan with flames which my kids call my "swagger wagon"....oh how times change....."

Of course I'm kidding bro, but that line made me think of the above scenario lol.....

Yeah, there really wasn't any way to say that without sounding corny. :D

.. not that anyone could forget their first, but for it to happen in that moment, in the middle of something that amazing, there really aren't words.

... and I can't say it enough, especially to the older members of the board; if you haven't seen Pearl Jam live, you simply haven't lived.

After a lot of thought, I've modified my 1960's list slightly. One song removed, one new song added, and some others reorganized.

Code: Select all

The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
The End - The Doors
Light My Fire - The Doors
People Are Strange - The Doors
Paint It, Black - The Rolling Stones
Somebody to Love - Jefferson Airplane
America - Simon & Garfunkel
Sympathy for the Devil - The Rolling Stones
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

The greatest song of the 80's:

"Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi (1986)
"Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def Leppard (1987)
"Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran (1982)
"Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson (1982)
"When Doves Cry" by Prince (1984)
"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" by Hall & Oates (1981)
"Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses (1987)
"Like a Virgin" by Madonna (1984)
"Walk This Way" by Run DMC (1986)
"You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC (1980)
Looking for a good read? I can give one to you. Did you know that canadian grand prix history is that rich? So am I.
