Charles Reed-Coaching Towards Greatness (Head Coach 06)
As the 2005 NFL season comes to an end, a Texas high school football head coach, Charles Reed, 31 years old, has 4 state champioinships in his 5 years of coaching, is one of the top 3 head coaching candidates for the NFL. Known for his offensive game plans, and developing quarterbacks into top prospects, the 2-14 Houston Texans, are deeply considering Reed. However, Reed has other job offers, such as working with quarterback Brett Farve, of the Green Bay Packers, and developing young quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the already talented offense. Reed has 5 job offers, all with top 10 NFL draft picks. Starting his NFL coaching career isn't going to be easy, with all team offers in some sort of rebuilding process. The Houson Texans, with the worst record in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints, with much needed rebuilding, the New York Jets, needing a rebuilding of the defense, the Oakland Raiders, who went to the Superbowl a few years prior, and the Green Bay Packers, historic team, great offense, who needs to get the team motivated to win more games. Being a Texas native, and with the number one pick in the NFL draft, Reed has chosen to rebuild the struggling Houston Texans.

FS Marcus Coleman, 7th round draft pick traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 1st round draft pick (32)
RT Zach Wiegert to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 4th round draft pick.
Draft:
With plenty of rumors surrounding the 1st overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, and with the Texans trading former number 1 overall pick David Carr, the Texans have no choice but keeping the top spot in the draft. It's obvious it will be a quarterback, but who? With USC prospect Matt Leinart, who is more "NFL ready" than Vince Young and Jay Cutler. Leinart, is expected to be the number 1 Overall pick. Another reporter though, however, thinks differently. The Texans must take Vince Young. That's the closest thing I've seen to Michael Jordan since he left Chicago. I watched this kid every game this year, and he just got better and better and better until you finally step back and say, 'I've never seen anything like him.' I don't want to hear another word about David Carr. The Texans will never live it down if they don't take Vince Young." Young, who defeated Leinart in the Rose Bowl this past season, doesn't seem phased by pressure, and is NFL ready as we speak.
Mel Kiper: "Some teams think Young will only be a 3 year starter. Other teams love him."
With the first overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, the Houston Texans select,
Vince Young, QB, Texas.

Re: Charles Reed-Coaching Towards Greatness (Head Coach 06)
Training Camp & Preseason Wrap Up:
Vince Young showed signs of greatness at times. At others, he looked like a 4th string undrafted rookie. In a interview with coach Reed, he stated that with time, Young will improve on decision making and when to scramble. Young picked up over 300 yards on the ground, but threw for under 250 yards this preseason. "We tested what he can and can't do this training camp, and tried to push him during the preseason. During the regular season we will be a rush first offence while Young is in development. We're also working on keeping him in the pocket more, although when he scrambles the ball, he's gone." Texans fans shouldn't be disappointed though. The Texans defense looked amazing, ending the preseason in the top 5 defense. The secondary is put together well, but there are concerns about the young linebacker group, who are starting 3 rookies. All in all, the Texans finished the preseason 3-1.
