However, he's only remembered (and hated) in Minnesota after he missed a 36 Yard FG during the NFC Championship game. Some blame him for the loss, as his FG would have made the Vikings have a 10 point lead. However, the Vikings D failed to hold the 7 point lead, their O completely failed during their first and only possession in OT, and the D failed AGAIN to stop the Falcons from getting into FG range. Yet Anderson is blamed and mostly remembered for kicking a foot to the left of the uprights.

He was another ageless wonder....sad that he gets scapegoated for that when you have randall cunningham, moss, and carter on the offense...there is no excuse to not move the ball....i hope the vikings win a sb in my lifetime...minnesota fans deserve it after all the heartbreaks in nfc champ games...

There are reasons why kickers, punters and specialists are underrated: No one is really coaching them. During Team Practices, all of them team is doing reps ... but kickers just hang around. They just practice for about 12-15 mins, partly because kicking more than 30-40 times is bad for one's leg, but mostly because ... well ... not a lot of Special Teams Coaches can teach kicking or punting. I know that the only team that has both a Special Teams Coach and a Specialist Coach is the Ravens.

You can read more about that right here

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Always have a plan. And a backup plan. And backups to the backup.
And be able to improvise.

This is a bit weird but I have wanted to try using my 99 ovr player (i always have one on my franchise team) be the kicker or punter for one whole season.....and see how that works out....like what if I played a whole franchise season only kicking field goals on purpose...I think it would be kind of neat to see what my team's record would be lol.....of course this is just for fun and nobody would do this in real life but I think it would make my games against the PC a lot more competitive and nerve wracking....

im kind of sad that blair walsh kind of spun around for a bit after missing that vikings fieldgoal in the playoffs...i think it really rocked his confidence as he wasn't bad previous to that play and then he kind of fell apart, and bounced aroudn till he landed with the seahawks ironically the team he failed to beat with his leg...lol.....

Couldn't agree more.

Its absurd that Morten Andersen and Adam Vinatieri are the only HOF kickers that will be elected in a generation where kickers are SO accurate, that they had to change hte rules (extra points)

.. whatever it is, Walsh lost it for sure. Its been hard to watch. He looked great at the start of his career.

Yea sometimes pivotal moments where the player experiences defeat just ruins the rest of their career.....walsh was a very good player....I think that minnesota playoff game really did him in....its really not his fault but the pressure of a superbowl starved fanbase and the past history of vikings failures in big games I think really was too much for walsh to bear even after his miss...his name got etched along with those failures and its tough...

just like when the packers had the TE bostik bounce off his helmet on an onside kick....he was effectively dismissed for that one play because the locker room couldn't stand seeing him after his error....now we never hear from him in the league at all....its unfair to treat players like they aren't humans like us...with faults and errors....but football has become so glamorized that any failure gets magnified 100x over especially with tv and social media tools....

UGH!

Thou who shall not be named... cost us a Super Bowl trip.

... that was actually an extreme personnel blunder. They decided to cut an excellent special teamer H-back type, Ryan Taylor, and went with more of a raw, receiver type. They've been looking for a TE, essentially since Jermichal Finleys neck injury.

Bostick absolutely blew it though. He was supposed to pick his man. Thats it. The ball would have gone cleanly to Jordy Nelson (I believe)... I won't watch that travesty again to confirm though.

.. one of a string of mistakes in that horrendous collapse. Its almost a shame Rodgers forced OT in that game. The Packers didn't deserve it.

He went to Zona and the Vikes, then stuck for parts of 2 years with the Jets.

He had his chances. He was a bottom of the roster type.
