Redskins sign Kai Forbath

Postby NickyJ » Tue Oct 09, 2012 3:22 pm

Washington Post
The Washington Redskins have signed former UCLA kicker Kai Forbath, who beat out veterans Olindo Mare and Josh Brown in a tryout Tuesday, according to a person with knowledge of the Redskins decision.

An All-American and winner of the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award in 2009, Forbath was signed by Dallas after he went undrafted in 2011, but spent the year on injured reserve.

Forbath tweeted: “Couldn’t be more excited to join Redskins nation! #HTTR”

He made five of five field goal attempts for Tampa Bay this preseason, including a long of 55. But the Bucs have a strong kicker in Connor Barth, who has made nine of nine kicks, including a 57-yarder, this season.

Can't be worse than Cundiff. ABC.

Heck, I would've taken him back if it meant getting rid of Cundwhiff.

I do have one worry about Forbath, though: history. Former Cowboys and Ravens kickers have proved to be troublesome for us. First came Squeeze'em from Dallas, who cost us a win against NO in '09. Then came ex-Raven Gano, who simply wasn't reliable. Then Cundwhiff, a deadly mixture of both. Now, we've got Forbath, who spent a year on the Cowboys' IR.

While Cundiff is god awful in the clutch, I still think slightly more highly of him than Gano. It's readily apparent that Graham has no range, which leads me to ask why Shanahan repeatedly asked the kid to make 47-yarders during the McNabb Saga.

Well, he's a career 5 for 5 with a long 55, so I think this is a bit better than Cundiff or Gano.
I do wonder if Longwell is going to come back though.

Graham had the leg. He kicked a franchise record 59 yarder. His problem was missing important kicks.

I wish the Cowboys would've kept Kai Forbath. :( If he could out-do Kris Brown and Orlando Mare, he SURELY could've out-done Dan Bailey.

Bailey hasn't missed at all this year. Training camp, preseason, and regular season. Not one miss.

If we could get Bailey, I'd do a backflip. But I'll definitely settle for Kai.

lol, maybe I'm just remembering him against the Titans back two years ago. He missed 2 out of 3 kicks in the 40-yard range, and I know he only posted a seventy-something kicking rate.
