I understand the theory behind the prevent defense, but in practice it just seems to cause more harm than good.

Here is the problem with fans in their mind set. There is nothing good about loosing a game. When you accept a loss as a win you have defeated yourself. You now expect to loose . Last season for the Steelers was just like Dallas’ season. The thought of getting a high draft ick just means one thing.... you suck. Dallas would have to do what Miami did. Sell off players for multiple picks in rounds 2-4.

Yeah, years ago it started out to defend/prevent against the late deep pass. That philosophy is old and does not work in today's game! And over the years teams have realized if you're going to drop 6 or 7 DB's 30 yards down field, they will gladly take the 11 yard underneath pass, get the 1st down, get out of bounds stopping the clock. Repeat until close enough to take a legit shot in the endzone to win the game. 55 seconds is an eternity in that situation, even with no timeouts remaining for the offense call!

What they should do to defend against the 5 WR's in that late game situation is simple. An evolved Prevent would be IMO, drop 3 safety's deep covering deep 3rd's and Press man coverage underneath (press coverage worked for 3+ qtrs) and continue to pressure the QB into making quick throws! In that scheme 2 DL (best pass rushers), 2 LB's (best coverage LB/spy & best pass rush LB) 7 DB's! Rush 3 or 4 depending on the QB's mobility! And NOT let the QB just sit back, have all day to pass, moving the ball closer and be heroic!

And like BUS36, there's no pride in losing with honor!

Actually that's wrong. There is something good about losing. You learn from a loss, you learn to get better. You're not always improving if you win, you're just not regressing. Most teams improve when they lose.

Also, yes, it's losing, not loosing.

Losing is only good if you correct what is the cause. So the most improved team in the NFL in you thinking is the Jets, they are 0-9. The culture of losing would need to be removed by the coaches to the players. Why are teams like the Steelers, Chiefs, Patriots and Saints are successful? These teams from top to bottom show and demand success. Their culture is to win and never accept anything else. Last year the Steelers lost their QB in week 2 and remain in the playoff hunt til week17, why? The culture of every man plays for each other. The TEAM concept, banding together and not letting you friend down. Here is the one question that’s team player will always answer.... are you the one who will let your team mates down? The answer will be “ oh hell no!!!”

It's horrible when the player's mindset is comfortable with losing too! It's never o.k!

In football, losers study film showing what they did wrong and use the winners tape on how to do it right. The winners study that same film and critique their plays that didn't work and work even harder to correct their minor mistakes to maintain the success. You don't need improvement if your on top, work smart, play hard! Like in boxing, the trainer will tell the fighter "just keep doing what you're doing"! The deeper meaning to that is, as long as you do what you've been doing in training and now in the real fight based off of study and preparation (to win), there's no way the opponent will come close to beating you! New saying, "You got this"! Old saying "Work smart, not hard"!

Some guys care more about winning much more than others! A bunch of them are just happy with the big pay check and could care less about winning!

The jets for example, surely don't want to be 0-9, and would rather be 9-0 or close to it, fighting it out for the East title with the improved Bills and Dolphins! But they don't want it bad enough to get it! They don't know how to win or make the necessary adjustments. Adam Gase IS NOT a good HC period! You can't imagine them contending with Darnold, and old man Gore as the starting HB. Flacco is no answer and proved it. He threw the late costly INT and the Patriots had the resolve to finish strong on top. My old chess coach said, you can study the wrong things for a long time and stay bound to them! It's hard to break bad habits if no one tells you they're bad!

And this season's Cowboys defense, they simply lost their edge, pointing fingers. blaming the coaches, not playing smart or with 110% effort and like Coach BUS36 stated, not playing for one another!

The only thing you get out of losing is a sore ass and talked about like bums, cause nobody likes losers (the butt of every joke, t.v show and conversation)!

And lastly, most teams DO NOT improve when they are losers until you change the losing culture, fire the coach and hire players who want to win! Lions & Bengals are prime examples of the long time losers in the NFL!

But how bout them Fins though, sitting second in the East at 5-3, huh, say what?

I'm done with this one! On to the next hot topic!
