Video recording / capture of Madden 08

Postby Theov » Sat Mar 23, 2019 12:05 pm

I'm trying to record Madden 08, but OBS is recording a black screen.
Is it possible to capture video, if yes, how?
Thanks.

Not sure what OBS is, but I use Fraps with no problems. It runs fine on my PC which is a 2.7 GHz dual core running Windows XP.

I will try that.
Any special settings or hoops I have to jump through?

Bandicam is also an option.

But, I too am a fraps user and endorser.

If you can afford the file size, FRAPS is the best option. FRAPS videos come uncompressed, so they will burn disk space and uploading them raw can be a chore. If not, you could try DXtory (if memory serves, that works best on DirectX based games, which M08 is. Although DXtory is picky every now and then) or Bandicam (both need to be set up though). Both of those, when set up right, produce videos with solid quality and not excessive file size. But FRAPS tends to be more compatible than the other ones and is pretty much plug and play, as there is not a lot to setup.

Also, since you probably want to edit those videos, i'll recommend Cyberlink's PowerDirector. I've been using it for years now. It's simple to use and very effective and powerful.

Have you tried Nvidia's recording software? ShadowPlay I think it's called?

I had it on my computer, but my laptop doesn't have it... if OBS doesn't return any results I will try fraps if it's suitable or nvidia.
Thanks!

If you're going to invest some money I would recommend a gaming HDMI recorder instead. You will also need a VGA to HDMI converter.

In my setup I use the laptop's second VGA to record what's on the screen. The VGA is converted to HDMI which is connected to the HDMI gaming recorder.

I have my HDMI connect to my PC which allows me to record longer lengths of time.
