Madden W10 problem
Re: Madden W10 problem
Tried install from disk and Web and neither changed anything. I'm away for a month, but I was just reading something about "game mode" which I have enabled. I plan to stop it and see what that does. Supposedly it doesn't work as well as intended and in some cases hamper performance. Maybe it's doing something that's causing Madden to not recognize direct x.

bobsright wrote:I get the exact same error message. I've done the compatibility thing with no luck. The problem just started with the latest update. I'm with the insider program and this is a pre release build. I've rolled it back once and that solved the prob, but you can only hold off the updates a week so now I'm back to the 3D hardware accelerator error. Direct X is current as is my drivers for my Radeon Graphics cards running in Crossfire. Anybody else with this issue? Yes I could roll back again and leave the insider prog. but I'd really like to make this work. Later full releases may doom Madden PC.
Make sure you have .net framework installed (listed in my guide as a download link---see my signature on my post).......also feel free to message me with your computer specifications and if needed I can help you setup madden 08 on W10 via Teamviewer.
For help running madden please consult my guide and posts from fellow users here....thanks! (link below) viewtopic.php?f=22&t=17907
I'm not on site much, so if I don't respond it's b/c I haven't checked in a while.

To temporarily prevent the driver from being reinstalled until a new driver fix is available, a troubleshooter is available that provides a user interface to hide and show Windows updates and drivers for Windows 10.
The following troubleshooter is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
Download the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package now. Microsoft
When you click the download link, you're prompted to open or save wushowhide.diagcab.
open or save wushowhide.diagcab prompt
To run the troubleshooter, open wushowhide.diagcab, select Next, and then follow the instructions in the troubleshooter to hide the problematic driver or update.
After that you need to setup a Group Policy Restriction to stop that driver from beiing automatically updated by windows ever again!!!

Although I thoroughly agree with AaronS, I do appreciate that Double-U is providing a solution to another nasty problem, a solution that allows MADDEN to survive on newer personal computer platforms for a bit longer.
Will there ever be a better football simulation than MADDEN 08 released that runs on Win 7?
Regretfully, it looks more and more like MADDEN 08 is the best there will ever be for the classic Wintel PC line.
So let's continue to support and enjoy it as we can.
To that end, on this M$ Update Catalog page: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com ... =KB4019264 Select the last item to download it to patch your 64 bit Windows 7 OS for the Wanna Cry BS. 2017-05 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4019264) 182.9 MB I have downloaded it but have not run it, as I'm 99% of the time on UBUNTU 16.04 Linux, and I'm paranoid as hell about running anything from M$. I hope that they don't require you to download anything else from M$ in order to successfully run that update, because you never know what they may do to your computer. Their patch might be almost as bad as the Wanna Cry BS designed to force the sleeple onto Windows 10+ or Apple. Good luck and backup your system before doing anything. BTW, they didn't forget XP!!! http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com ... =KB4012598

Double-U:
I understand what you're suggesting, but, I don't think the driver is the issue. I still have the same driver from my Radeon cards as I did before. The update that f-ed up Madden didn't install a new driver. The latest driver for my cards are the last AMD is providing for the Radeon 6000 series. I don't have a MS generic driver installed. I tried closing game mode as I had eluded to and it did absolutely nothing. I still get a pop up that says I have no 3D acceleration hardware.

Re: Madden W10 problem
OK. I got it working. Not sure if what I did made it work or just dumb luck. Anyone searching this forum with the same issue try this. Copy all your Madden files in Documents and in Program Files x86 and put them somewhere else (flash drive or another folder in a directory the the uninstaller won't find). Now completely uninstall Madden (when it asks if you want to uninstall all files click yes). Restart computer to make sure it's gone. Now put back the files you saved in their original directories. Find the mainapp.exe file and make a shortcut to it and place it where you normally put your shortcut to the game. Make sure the disk is in the drive (duh!) and play away. It won't show up in apps/programs as being installed but it works!
Before I did this Madden would show up in apps as "unavailable". I think it has to do with the trend MS is moving towards where only MS apps and programs will work on windows. Kind of like Apple. It's a safer environment but sucks for people who like to tinker with things.
Would appreciate any feedback from people who have tried this whether it works for you or not.
