Madden 08 PC crashes (Direct3D device)

So every time I go to play this game, the game closes before I even see a menu, showing me the error "could not reset Direct3D device, the game will now close." Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

I remember once seeing this error before. I occurred when I had setup my laptop with two display. I got it to work by using either monitor. Try deleting the "VIDEO.GUID" file in the "My Documents/Madden NFL 08" folder. Also try reverting back to the displays default settings.

Is there a way to fix this without unplugging one of my monitors. I used to run it on dual monitors , but on reinstalling it wont work

Not sure but you may have to use a 3rd party application (nVIDIA/ATI) to stretch that resolution over two monitors. Usually video card manufacturers will give you some kind of tool to "stretch" the game over screens.

Disconnecting, then deleting Video.GUI worked. I wasnt trying to play across two screens.

For Amd cards/dual monitor setups you can enable gpu scaling.

Hey guys, I came across this on Google and I have a fix that seems reliable. Maybe it will help someone.

Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Sports\Madden NFL 08" > Right-click mainapp.exe > Properties > Compatibility and try the settings here:

Compatibility Mode: Windows Vista
Override high DPI scaling behavior, scaling performed by: System (Enhanced)
Disable fullscreen optimizations
