So the Packers showed up wearing the wrong uniforms… though, if they want to be the Browns, they can go right ahead!




On the first passing play of the game, Mitch Trubisky chucks a ball right to Winston Guy. He’s making his first career start in place of the injured William Moore, and the game has started in the best possible way for him!




Trey Smith finds DGB in the corner of the endzone for our first TD of the day.




Trubisky fires another pick right to Rodgers-Cromartie. Nice job!




Zach Ertz gets the last laugh on DRC, though, as he scores a TD on him.




With 0:03 on the clock, the Packers run the ball from the 1 yard line, and Hightower slips through and picks up the safety as time expires. Good job, Green Bay! The Vikings lead 18-7 at the half.




Pat White finds himself wide open on a passing play, going for 38 yards.




White gets pushed into the endzone as part of a crowd of Vikings. The Packers are not keeping this one close.




Brandon Saine gets demolished and leaves the game with a concussion. Ouch!




Pat White puts a stiff arm on a safety and continues flying forwards. He’s been a guarantee for 100+ yards from scrimmage since Howard’s been out.




Terrance West tumbles forward for a 24 yard score, bringing the final score to 39-13.

Game Summary

The offense was a bit stagnant in the first half, as we moved the ball rather well, but I had major struggles in the redzone. With no Olsen and no Howard at my disposal, I changed the gameplan to focus throwing to my top 3 WRs, and it worked to perfection.

The Wallace/Diggs/DGB combo proved to be too much to cover all at once for Green Bay. I had troubles running the ball, but I was able to pass to Pat White for some big yardage.

On defense, Trubisky got pressured into making bad decisions. Sharrif Floyd made 3 hits on him but couldn’t come up with a sack, but his mate at DT, Timmy Jernigan, scored 2 sacks on him. Mitch only had success throwing to Jacoby Ford, who has a ridiculous 98/99 speed/accel, so I put Rodgers-Cromartie on him to limit the damage.

At this point, I’m prepping my Vikings and Eagles squads with strategies to beat each other when the match comes in a few weeks. The CPU opponents just aren’t cutting it, and raising the sliders any further will start adding BS (defenders making unrealistic interceptions, receivers catching passes they have no business hauling in).


Eagles Update: Eagles 34, Steelers 24

An old Ben Roethlisberger put up a fight and threw for 394 yards against the Eagles’ defense, but too many turnovers from Pittsburgh’s offense led to their inevitable defeat.

In another Jordan Howard-less game, Pat White soaks up the reps and runs in a TD. It's hard to believe he was a QB not too long ago before I moved him to HB!




Tampa's defense played some solid pass defense, as LB Al Burnett made a nice play to break up a ball going to Diggs. It's not too frequent when a LB can cover a WR like this.




Trey Smith gets ambused by a Tampa LB on a DB blitz. The Vikings didn't even crack 10 points by halftime!

The Bucs lineup lost 5 guys by the 2nd quarter, including their top 2 QBs!




Charlie Green drops an easy TD and the Bucs come away with 0 points in the first half. With the way Tampa moved the ball against me, it's a shame they didn't score more.




So I think this was a blocked FG? The kicker took a swing, but then the ball teleported to the holder's hand. Uh, more like "in" his hand. So I think I'll give William Moore a blocked kick in my stats.




Dorial Green-Beckham drops an easy first down...




Diggs didn't get a lot to do today, but he cashes in yet another TD. He's went from fringe of the roster to Pro Bowler at an unbelievable speed.




Akhello Witherspoon gets beat by WR Charlie Green, and then William Moore accidentally takes out Witherpsoon, allowing for Green to score a TD.




Wallace burns CB Joe Haden for a 43 yard TD, and the Vikings have taken a big lead, as they usually do.




3rd string QB Garrett Gilbert finds HB Kareem Hunt matched up on LB Stephone Anthony and hooks up for a 60 yard TD. Anthony plays in some nickel packages, but I may need to scale his role back...




The Bucs don't put anybody on the right side of the field, allowing for a 43 yard Orson Charles TD.




Odighizuwa has been heating up recently, as he collects a sack here. He may get to 10 sacks this year as he had 2 today.

Game Summary

The CPU played a decent game against me, especially since starting QB Shane Lloyd was quickly knocked out with an injured. DT Timmy Jernigan made the hit, and then he also injured Joe Flacco on another late hit! What a monster! Flacco had a surprising amount of success against his former team, as he took my secondary apart. TE OJ Howard was especially hard to cover with LBs, with his great size-speed combo.

Meanwhile, the offense struggled to move the ball in the first half - stop me if you've heard that one before! Tampa had the DBs to cover my WRs, so I relied on passes to my TEs to move the ball. My running game was limited to about 4 yards a carry, but by the second half, the blocking improved and we got some bigger runs.

My defense giving up a couple of 50+ TDs in the second half was a bit concerning, but it was against backups CB Witherspoon and MLB Anthony, so it's not like my regulars were getting their butts kicked.

Only new players, huh? You've always been a jersey aficionado from the start! Is there some sort of pattern you like to do?

Since you made complaints back in the days of my Atticus Jenkins journal, I've actually kept track of jersey numbers to prevent duplicates. Here's a post-it note I have stuck up right now:

I have taken a peek every once in a while at your journal, and I thought about asking what year it was. To be totally honest, I just have a hard time getting invested to a roster full of 100% fictional guys that I know zero background about, so I would have a hard time commenting about player performances. And, also the fact that you win every game 100-0 and the statlines are pure insanity...

Yup, every time I throw a catchable ball to a receiver I count it as a target. I have a notepad out when I play games and I record targets, pass/run busts, and then the defensive stats you see. I'm basically scribbling things in between every play, especially on defense.

To answer your question about my journal, I'm in 2069. Yep... Started in 2011.

As for how I do jersey numbers, I have a system. I keep track of what numbers are available in a text file, and I also include a list of numbers to avoid due to retirement of the number, and numbers to give out only sparingly (like 94 and 88 for Dallas.) Then, whenever I acquire a new player who doesn't have a previous number, I assign them a jersey number using random.org's list randomizer. I select the numbers from my available number list that are legal for the player's position, input it into the list randomizer, and go with whatever number it spits out. Though, there is one exception where I do it in a way that isn't completely random; with defensive linemen, I will always give them a random number in the 90s first. I don't go into the 50-79 range until 90-99 are exhausted. If I were to acquire a player who had a previous number (from a past team, for example), I'd just manually give them a number that makes "sense" compared to what they had before if their previous number is not available. If no logical new number exists, then I'd randomize it.

Anyway, you likely already know this, but here's the current rules just in case you need a reminder.

• QB - 1-19
• RB - 20-49, 1-9 (preseason only)
• WR - 10-19, 80-89, 1-9 (preseason only)
• TE - 40-49, 80-89
• OL - 50-79 (technically 50-59 are supposed to be just for centers, but others occasionally get them.)
• DL - 50-79, 90-99
• LB - 40-59, 90-99, 60-79 (preseason only)
• DB - 20-49, 1-9 (preseason only)
• K/P - 1-19
• LS - 40-99 (often based on their "original position".)

DGB catches a TD as the Packers tried to cover him with their safeties, who are both way too short to cover him!




Odighizuwa phases through a Packer O-lineman and strips Trubisky of the ball.




Barr had injured Trey Smith, but he would be able to return to the game in the 3rd quarter. Good thing he didn't break his collarbone, right?

Game Summary

The first half was nothing special; the offense moved the ball well into the redzone, where the Packers stepped up. I frequently abused their safeties, but when the endzone got closer, this became more difficult to do. Jordan Howard made his return, but got crushed whenever he tried to run. My O-line had a hard time blocking against the Packers' tough run defense.

AJ McCarron ended up playing most the first half as Trey Smith got injured by Anthony Barr - feels like some sort of karma for what's happened in real life!

Defensively, our D-line took over the entire game. Taylor & Odighizuwa combined for 4 sacks and Floyd & Jernigan also had dominant games. Jernigan also forced a fumble. Our pass pressure was so strong that the Packers completed 4 passes in the entire game! That's not even to mention that we injured Trubisky early on and mostly faced the incompetent Cardale Jones.

My focus is squarely on the Eagles now, so analyzing this pointless affair against the Packers isn't going to help matters.

Philly is 14-0, and ready to take on the Vikings with all of their starters healthy. Next week is going to be a blast!

Week 16: 14-0 Vikings at 14-0 Eagles Preview



These really are two elite teams matching up! The only real issue the Eagles have had is some shoddy pass defense and lapses of offensive ability. Most see the Vikings as the clear favorite, but in reality the Eagles should be the favorite since I will be controlling them in the 2nd half.

Week 16: 14-0 Vikings at 14-0 Eagles



The game opens with Mike Wallace losing a fumble... just great! The margin for error is slim today. I can't afford to screw up when I only get two quarters as the Vikings!




Trey Smith finds Riley Cooper being covered by OLB Pat Angerer, and he takes advantage. Vikings up 7-0.




I ensured Knile Davis had somewhere to run - he barely average 2 yards a carry in the first half.




Unfortunately, this didn't stop him from taking a carry to the house, tying the game up at 7 apiece.




The Eagles have HB Knile Davis pass the ball downfield to Jimmy Graham, good for a 48 yard gain!




The Vikings re-take the lead 14-10 with a score from Jordan Howard.




Eagles QB Matt Ryan throws a pick straight to Dee Milliner. This gives the Vikings full control of the 1st half.




We score again with Cooper, thanks to the CPU sending NT Ian Williams to play safety for some reason!


The second half ends with a 28-10 Viking lead... but will that be enough to endure 2 quarters of better Eagles play?




With QB Matt Ryan injured, I now lead the Eagles to a TD to cut the score to 11 points. Backup QB Jason Stone hits WR T.Y. Hilton for a 43 yard score.




Howard loses a fumble and the Vikings are in real trouble now! However, HB Davis lost a fumble and the Vikings got to turn that into a FG.




Stone finds Hilton again to make it a 31-28 game after getting the extra 2. Only 4:30 remains on the clock!

When the Vikings took the field, I got them to 3rd and 8, but I was surprised as Trey Smith completed a 24 yard pass to Mike Wallace and the Eagles' secondary was certainly not ready for that! The reception not only tilted the advantage towards Minnesota, but also got them into field goal range. They made it a 34-28 game with just 0:48 and no timeouts on the clock. This wasn't over yet, but the Vikings defense is good enough to not allow a Hail Mary... right?





Eagles WR Kelvin Benjamin ALMOST catches a hail mary in the endzone, but both his feet were out of bounds. The clock is down to 8 seconds and the Vikings have a 34-28 lead!





The CPU did it! The Vikings advance to 15-0 and have locked up the #1 seed!

This also means that the Vikings will not only get homefield advantage in the playoffs, but next time, I will get to control the Vikings in the second half after working with the Eagles in the 1st half. In theory, this should give the Vikings the best chance at winning. Let's go on a Super Bowl run!!

Game Summary

Whew, what a game! I did everything I could as both the Vikings and Eagles to win this one, and we came away with what I would consider a satisfactory result. As the Vikings, I did my best to get a big lead as possible, and an 18 point lead was just enough. The Eagles' defense is no joke, and I had to rely on throwing to my slot WR when covered by a LB, which is why Riley Cooper had a big game (Diggs missed most the game with an injury).

Meanwhile, the Eagles offense had a decent start, as on one drive Matt Ryan overcame 2 3rd & 10 or longers and got a rushing TD from Knile Davis. That was the most damage they did, as I was able to shut down their offense for the most part. Offensively, I did luck out on 2 pass interferences that the Eagles defenders didn't really commit. By the end of the 2nd quarter, Trey Smith had thrown for 203 yards and we scored 28 points.

Unfortunately for Philadelphia, on their final drive in the 2nd quarter, Matt Ryan got injured and he will miss 3 to 4 weeks, which will cut into the playoffs! He's been very injury prone this year.

So when I took control of the Eagles... well, I usually am never down 18 points, so I had to change my approach. Philly's offense is built around using Knile Davis as a weapon, but I simply couldn't do that today. I focused on getting good matchups, and I relentlessly torched SS T.J. McDonald in coverage using Jimmy Graham and Marquess Wilson. However, a very crucial Davis fumble stopped a drive that seemed like a surefire TD was coming, and the Eagles were limited to a 31-20 score just after the beginning of the 4th quarter. The CPU did a pretty poor job with the Vikings' offense, though it's worth nothing that Wallace and Olsen both had brutal drops that would have gone for a combined 40+ yards, so it's not entirely its fault.

Either way, the Vikings defense finally stepped things up and the pass rushers were consistently getting hits on QB Stone, and a huge sack by Hilee Taylor got the Eagles pinned back to a 4th and 18 with just 6:00 left, down 11 points. I opted to punt, as I figured the Vikings offense would go 3 and out - and they did! Stone was able to hit T.Y. Hilton with a deep ball on just the 2nd play of the drive and made it a 31-28. Surely, this was the end for the Vikings as the CPU does a great job at choking the game away... but no!

When the Vikings took the field, I got them to 3rd and 8, but I was surprised as Trey Smith completed a 24 yard pass to Mike Wallace and the Eagles' secondary was certainly not ready for that! The reception not only tilted the advantage towards Minnesota, but also got them into field goal range. They made it a 34-28 game with just 0:48 and no timeouts on the clock. This wasn't over yet, but the Vikings defense is good enough to not allow a Hail Mary... right?

I was able to get the ball to the 50 with 0:14 on the clock, and my only option at that point was hail maries. I attempted 4, and 1 of them came really close, but WR Benjamin couldn't land in bounds. The Vikings win!

The CPU was able to hold the lead with an 18 point buffer for long enough - though I wonder if this would have still happened if Matt Ryan wouldn't have gotten injured. It's hard to say.

Anyways, with the #1 seed in tow, the Vikings move forward as the clear Super Bowl favorite. The 14-1 Ravens will be the favorite on the AFC side, and while the Eagles will still be a threat in the inevitable championship game, at the moment, another championship is certainly within our grasp.

WR Michael Floyd scores another TD, getting past SS Deunta Williams. He reached 1000 yards today.




HB West blasts through a hole and gets a big gain... he appears to be in line to have a bigger role next year with HB Saine unlikely to be back in 2021.




TE Fauria drops a pass in the endzone. It's been a disappointing year for him.




DE Rivers ends his season on a good note, notching his 5th sack.
The Vikings end up winning this one easily, but the Jaguars still made the playoffs at 10-6.

Game Summary

There's not much to talk about here. I mostly played backups after sending my starters out there for the first quarter and bit more. One notable thing I did was that I switched the defense to a 3-4 alignment for the whole game, just for the heck of it. Things went smoothly as we shut down the Jags run game and notched 6 sacks. I had the D-line as Nkemdiche, Floyd, and Jernigan as the nose tackle. The OLBs were manned by Hilee Taylor and Odighizuwa, followed by DE Rivers and OLB Campbell. The ILBs were Shazier, Hightower, Studebaker, and the rest; but I gave Studebaker the day off with so many ILBs on the roster.

Rivers and Campbell made a great OLB duo and Sharrif Floyd kicked butt at DE. The only concerning thing was seeing CB Rodgers-Cromartie get roasted by WR Michael Floyd, but he is a 90 OVR WR, so I guess that's not like getting burned by a 76 OVR WR.

I rotated through basically everyone on offense today. QB AJ McCarron wasn't great out there, but he found a rhythm with WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, who's become a forgotten man after I spent a 1st round pick on him. I never suspected Stefon Diggs would pass him up and Riley Cooper is still clearly ahead of him on the depth chart too. The backup O-line was solid, though rookie guard Isaac Asiata got wasted on a few reps. Donald Stephenson seemed to do well at LT and Trai Turner and Brad Seaton had fine games too.


Eagles Update - Eagles 43, Cowboys 21

The game itself wasn't important as the Eagles were already locked into the #2 seed, but the big news from this game is that Eagles star HB Knile Davis will miss the rest of the season with a serious back injury. It's a major blow, and quite the blunder since he didn't need to be playing in this game... this makes the Eagles even weaker as QB Matt Ryan isn't likely to be healthy until around the Super Bowl.

#6 10-6 Colts at #3 10-5-1 Dolphins

Final Score: Colts 28, Dolphins 22

Miami took an 8 point lead into halftime, but blew it by letting the Colts go on a 14-0 run in the 2nd half. The Dolphins turned over the ball 5 times, as QB Quentin Douglas had terrible ball control. The Colts are unlikely to make a real run as their QB Marcus Mariota only completed 42% of his passes and their offense isn't very good... and fun fact! Former Viking DE Kenechi Udeze recorded a sack for the Colts, at age 37! He's still playing in his 17th year in the NFL.


#6 8-8 Piranhas at #3 13-3 Panthers

Final Score: Panthers 20, Piranhas 6

With the Vikings and Eagles bullying the rest of the NFC, the Panthers are left as a menacing #3 seed. For as mediocre as the Piranhas are, they were able to force 3 interceptions and hold Carolina to 20 points. Unfortunately their offense was woeful, managing just 152 passing yards. MVP of the game was DE Mario Hilton, who notched 4 sacks for the Panthers.


#5 11-5 Broncos at #4 10-6 Jaguars

Final Score: Jaguars 29, Broncos 9

You'd think the Broncos would put up more of a fight with a 11-5 record, but they proved to be frauds as QB Cam Newton was a dumpster fire on a stick. He tossed 2 pick sixes in the first half and the Broncos turned over the ball 6 times! However, the Jaguars were equally as bad on offense - they also turned over the ball 6 times! The Jaguars D ended up scoring 16 of the 29 points with a safety in the 4th quarter for good measure. What a disaster of a game!


#5 9-7 Seahawks at #4 12-4 Rams

Final Score: Rams 23, Seahawks 16

The Rams took a 20-0 lead in the 2nd quarter and just sat on it the rest of the game. QB Jay Cutler of the Rams had a superb outing as he relied on WR Edward Willis for a 6/104/2 line. The Seahawks got plenty of garbage time yards, but couldn't score TDs. Former Eagle HB Chris Johnson ran for 114 yards and WR DeSean Jackson had a 176 yard game, but they kept settling for FGs.


Divisional Round Matchups:

#6 Colts at #1 15-1 Ravens

Good luck, Indy. Baltimore is likely going to crush you. I just realized the Colts somehow made the playoffs even though QB Marcus Mariota threw 13 TDs to 30 interceptions! How did they win 11 games?!


#4 Rams at #1 16-0 Vikings

The Rams aren't much more than speed bumps for the Vikings at this point, but it's worth mentioning that they nearly beat the Eagles this year as they lost a close 24-21 game. Jay Cutler and the Rams offense have the weapons to score some points on the Vikes, but I doubt their defense will be able to handle what I'm going to throw at them.


#4 Jaguars at #2 13-3 Chargers

I have a hard time seeing the Jaguars toppling the Chargers. With QB Philip Rivers close to retirement, they will need to try and win a title soon. They haven't been to the Super Bowl since 2007.


#3 Panthers at #2 15-1 Eagles

On paper, the Panthers are a legit team, as their only 3 losses came to the Vikings, Eagles, and Chargers. However, the Eagles beat them 23-10 back in Week 2, and even without the Eagles' starting QB and HB, Philly shouldn't have too much trouble here.
