The way is still wide open, with two teams with only one loss, four with two losses, and four with three losses.

The picture is clearer in the NFC, which is led by 9-1 Barcelona. The 8-2 Snowcats, and maybe the 7-3 Roaches, Zerstorers, or Defenders, are also in contention.

It is fuzzier in the AFC. The Archers are ahead, but they have two matchups coming against the 8-2 RailRiders, and another against the 8-2 Apocalypse. The 8-2 Termites will also cling to their divisional lead over the 7-3 Blizzard, who they will face once more.

Draft pick watch: The Blizzard holds the Gunmen's 1st- and 2nd-round picks, and also the Kingfish's 2nd-round pick. The Gunmen started 0-6, eliciting wonder or fear that Anchorage would get a top-3 pick. But they have won 4 straight to make it to 4-6. If the season ended now, the Blizzard would get the 14th overall pick, which still isn't bad. As for the Kingfish, they are 5-5, so it should also be a middle-of-the-round pick.

That color combination reminded me of the Toronto Argonauts from the Canadian Football League. Another team with a nautical theme. Although I do like the grey options for the Beacons, but I just felt all-blue this time around.

Week 14 update

Following their loss to the Termites, the Blizzard returned to the W column again, winning their next 3 games.

Against the All Blacks, Josh Christensen helped Michael Schroeder get into the endzone for a 63-yard score, then had a touchdown of his own on 66 yards.




Bernie Cash turned a short pass into a 65-yard touchdown.



The game was a lot closer than anticipated.

Glenn Carswell had a phenomenal season, piling up 3236 yards from scrimmage and 25 TDs. But he was snubbed at the awards ceremony, as Blizzard QB Ted Davis won both the MVP and OPOY trophies, despite a dramatic dip in his statistics.

In fact, most Yetis had sizable drops in their statistics, compared to the last few seasons.

One notable exception is RB Michael Schroeder, who became the first Anchorage rusher in a while to amass over 2000 yards on the ground.

On defense, Kalen Bender has acclimated nicely to his switch to free safety.

Rookie Tavian Reynolds doesn't have great hands, but his freaky speed will keep him on the roster, where he gets most snaps as a running back. He rushed for 8 TDs and added 5 through the air, as well as 2 on kick returns.

Playoffs recap

After getting 2 interceptions in the entire regular season, Matt Nash had two pick-sixes in the first 65 seconds of the game against Pittsburgh.

This meant that, for the Archers, the road to the Super Bowl would go through the Blizzard. However, it would be under the warm sun of Florida.

On the first play from scrimmage, Jeremiah Brown connected with Trey Caudle for an 84-yard touchdown.



A field goal and a 5-yard run by Glenn Carswell later, it was 17-0 already.

Michael Schroeder scored on an 80-yard run to cut the gap.



After another North Florida field goal, Dedric Roberts intercepted a pass and returned it on 73 yards for the score.




Mo Brown scored a 22-yard TD to make it 27-14 Archers at the half.



Then he scored again on 14 yards to pull his team within a touchdown.

Anchorage then forced the punt, but Steve McComas tackled Matt Nash in the endzone for the safety. It was an 8-point game at this point.



James Williams caught a pass at the back of the endzone, but Bernie Cash made a spectacular touchdown catch.





The ensuing kickoff was returned on 95 yards by Glenn Carswell, but then Ray Scott made it to the endzone to keep it an 8-point game.





The Archers pinned their opponent inside the 5-yard line. The Blizzard tried to go down the field, but threw 3 straight incompletions. Then on fourth down, Marcus Thomas surged into the backfield and sacked Leslie Osborne, who was subbing in for a mildly injured Ted Davis.



The Blizzard could not get the ball back.

In the NFC, the Snowcats beat the Roaches (31-14) and Barcelona (29-7) to set up a revenge match against the Archers in the Super Bowl.

Jeremiah Brown opened the score with a 46-yard TD pass to Trey Caudle in the 1st quarter. Then to FB Lamont Millen in the 2nd quarter.

Winnipeg's reply came from a 7-yard run by Damon Seymour before the half.

Landon Myers caught a short TD pass in the 3rd quarter to tie the game.

But the tie was short-lived, as Brown connected with Caudle again, this time on 42 yards.

The Archers kept the Snowcats scoreless for the rest of the game to claim the 21-14 victory. With 6 receptions for 138 yards and 2 TDs, Trey Caudle was named Super Bowl MVP.
