First depth chart
QB: 5 Chris Boyle (85/24), 6 Jason Peterson (83/24), 4 Ryan Winston (77/21)
Will the team want to stick with a pocket passer like Boyle? Winston has the same speed that Jeremy McManus had, and almost as strong an arm (THP 93), but he needs to work on his accuracy (THA 75).
HB: 29 Sterling Maclin (77/24), 28 Quintin Adams (79/27), 30 Alfred Lewis (78/28)
With no Bubba Brady clone in the draft, the Blizzard will be happy to rely on Sterling Maclin as their workhorse back.
FB: 86 Donald Bulaga (99/32), 47 Lee Mauro (85/24), 46 Tank Byrd (79/22), 26 Timmy Abbrederis (97/37), 23 David Carder (76/24)
TE: 49 Nate Ijalana (96/30), 80 Mike Jones (77/32), 83 Kenny Veldheer (76/22), 84 A.J. Gay (73/23)
Ijalana, Bulaga and Mauro should get most of the targets in this position group. On kick returns, Bulaga will be the lead blocker, while we expect the next line to consist of Mauro, Abbrederis, Jones (or Gay) and Byrd.
WR: 11 Donald Wolfe (96/30), 16 Weston Swoope (86/27), 81 Charles McCoy (80/22), 12 Louis Hill (78/29), 17 Taylor Grayson (78/26), 19 Cyrus Garland (78/24), 87 Taylor Depaola (77/24)
By his standard, Wolfe had a disappointing season last year, but he still has a lot of good football in him. Swoope and McCoy could rotate as WR2, while Grayson should be mostly used on special teams (he's an excellent blocker).
LT: 71 Ricardo Mitchell (97/32), 75 Justin Hawley (81/31)
LG: 67 Shawn Beyer (83/22), 66 Brandon Joseph (77/26)
C: 65 Denard Sutton (89/26), 61 Khiry Dial (74/27), 79 Steven Pitta (73/22)
RG: 76 Chris Green (94/26), 68 Eddie Boling (82/21)
RT: 60 Aaron Brown (92/28)
The starters should be the same as last year. Rookie Pitta is probably on the way out, as he is awful in the ground game (RBK 67). Boling could be used as a backup at center.
LE: 96 Deshazor White (85/24), 94 Michael Showers (76/27)
DT: 93 Mike Waddle (94/29), 95 Dexter Anderson (76/22)
RE: 92 Scott Williamson (93/27), 98 E.J. Newhouse (85/25), 91 Anthony Brooks (72/25)
The "W-line" will disrupt offenses once again, and White will probably be moved all around the field to make blocking him difficult.
LOLB: 57 Uani' Penn (88/29), 51 Aldrick Koyack (76/29)
MLB: 90 Damion Cooper (90/31), 97 Austin Sterling (81/25), 53 Jamie Gronkowski (79/22), 56 Nate Freeman (74/22), 52 Ramon Cox (75/28)
ROLB: 54 Jeremiah Kalil (86/29), 55 Will Wilson (78/25), 58 Houston Taylor (75/26), 50 Khalil Fuller (76/21)
LB/CB: 59 Mike Parry (86/25)
A lot of talented linebackers, but Anchorage won't be able to keep them all. We expect Parry to move to the LB/CB position, and there could be some more shuffling.
CB: 21 Chykie Jones (94/30), 27 Phil Quinn (82/24), 22 Quinton Sample (86/22), 35 Trey Yeldon (76/24), 32 Curtis Hammond (75/28), 43 Tim McCown (73/26), 88 A'Shawn Woods (73/30)
FS: 25 William Roberts (86/25), 42 Dominique Matthews (85/21), 44 DeAndre Zuttah (81/23), 48 Zach Warford (85/32)
SS: 31 Jake Smith (92/30), 33 Everson Williams (85/28), 39 Brandon Cleveland (80/26), 38 Shaq Watson (77/23)
There's definitely a logjam at defensive back. How long do you want to keep a 1st overall pick as a 3rd-stringer? Quinn has been playing too well to get him off the field. Jones had a difficult season last year but is expected to rebound.
P: 13 Dontrelle Kaepernick (99/30)
Kaepernick will handle all kicking duties. Another kicker will have to be signed to conform to roster requirements.
Anchorage Blizzard in the FI Football League
Re: Anchorage Blizzard in the FI Football League
I notice your offensive stats tend to be higher than mine in some areas, but your defensive stats are pretty much universally lower. What kind of sliders do you use on defense?
Also, how do you get so many punt return touchdowns? I know you explained once before (I think) but I don't remember.

Here are my sliders. I play on Pro but I'm not a particularly good strategist or Madden player in general.
Code: Select all
Slider Human CPU
QB Accuracy 45 55
Pass Blocking 45 55
Receiver Catching 45 55
Running Ability 45 55
Offensive line Run Blocking 45 55
Defensive Awareness 47 55
Defensive line Knockdowns 45 55
Interceptions 30 55
Defensive Break Blocks 45 55
Tackling 45 55
Fieldgoal Length 50 50
Fieldgoal Accuracy 50 50
Punt Length 50 50
Punt Accuracy 50 50
Kickoff Length 50 67
Your passing stats are always higher than mine, and you are much better at distributing your targets. This explains why I get some 3000-yard receivers: I usually have 2 (rarely 3) favorite receivers who get most of the targets. Others get some action, but significantly less. The season before last is a good example:
Code: Select all
RECEIVING REC YDS AVG LONG TD DROP YAC
Nate Ijalana 116 2538 21.8 98 38 11 788
Donald Wolfe 70 2460 35.1 87 33 11 592
Aaron McClain 44 576 13.0 35 21 7 111
Weston Swoope 23 555 24.1 70 6 1 189
Donald Bulaga 22 329 14.9 35 4 1 172
Ricardo Phillips 7 71 10.1 21 0 1 16
Louis Hill 1 26 26.0 26 0 0 7
Xavier Waters 0 0 0.0 0 0 1 0
Mike Jones 1 0 0.0 0 0 0 0
If we compare with your receiving stats from last season, we can see they are distributed more evenly, which makes it a lot harder for a single receiver to get off-the-charts yardage:
Code: Select all
RECEIVING REC YDS AVG LONG TD DROP YAC
Patrick Farr 83 1980 23.8 76 48 0 570
Chris Snell 71 1318 18.5 78 32 0 700
Chris Powell 64 1168 18.2 80 25 1 285
Brandon Johnson 36 625 17.3 52 12 1 147
Charlie Parker 31 429 13.8 61 16 0 169
B. W. O'Shaughnessy 15 280 18.6 61 7 0 129
Josh James 9 109 12.1 48 6 0 97
Rodney Mingo 5 81 16.1 34 1 1 18
Brandon Stills 5 72 14.3 22 0 0 49
Michael Minter 2 48 24.0 27 1 0 5
O. J. Joyce 1 18 18.0 18 0 0 0
Alonzo Linde 1 17 17.0 17 1 0 11
Clayton Alford 4 17 4.2 8 0 0 0
Trevor Jenkins 2 16 8.0 8 1 0 9
For defensive stats, you are absolutely right. If memory serves, my leading sackmaster is usually not too far behind yours, but you get a lot more sacks in general. As for interceptions, my individual record is 15, while I've seen you get 30+ before. For interceptions, maybe it has something to do with my slider, but for the rest, I don't really have an explanation.
Finally, my punt return strategy is quite dangerous. I try to go side to side (often backwards) hoping to find an opening. This sometimes results in 40-yard losses or even safeties. Which doesn't bother me most of the time: I have the offense to make up for loss of yardage, and I'm usually way ahead (and trust my defense), so a lost possession is not that big of a deal. Here is an example of a punt return gone well, but as I said, it can go way wrong too.

Re: Anchorage Blizzard in the FI Football League
Roster cuts and personnel moves
The Blizzard continued the aggresive remodeling of its roster, trading away two more starters for high draft picks.
They sent MLB Damion Cooper to the Owls for their second-round pick. Tokyo finished season 77 in last place, so that pick should normally be close to the first round.
Most surprisingly, they shipped CB Chykie Jones to the Toronto Bulls for their 1st-round pick and backup CB Rueben Cox. If Phil Quinn performs like he did last year, and Quinton Sample does like a 1st overall pick should, this move could be great. But if either one underperforms or gets injured, it could be a long season. Also, plot twist: the Bulls are the first opponents of the Blizzard this upcoming season.
Finally, Anchorage sent a package of picks (one 2nd-rounder and four 3rd-rounders) to Tyler in exchange for their 1st-round pick. If the Jeremy McManus-led Termites do great, it could be a steal for them. Either way, that gives them more picks to patch several holes in their roster.
In other news, the Blizzard signed rookie K Nick Tapper and released the following players:
FB David Carder
WR Cyrus Garland
WR Taylor Depaola
TE Mike Jones
TE Kenny Veldheer
C Khiry Dial
C Steven Pitta
DE Anthony Brooks
OLB Khalil Fuller
CB Trey Yeldon
CB Curtis Hammond
CB Tim McCown
CB A'Shawn Woods
FS Zach Warford

Re: Anchorage Blizzard in the FI Football League
Week 5 update
The Blizzard started the season strongly, building a 5-0 record.
Left-handed rookie QB Ryan Winston did not get all the chances to succeed so far, considering most plays are designed for right-handed quarterbacks. This is a challenge that the whole offense is working on. So far, Winston has made 2 starts and compiled good statistics. Jason Peterson had 2 starts as well, while Chris Boyle had one.
Sterling Maclin has been carrying the offense on the ground, averaging more than 200 yards per game so far.
On defense, Phil Quinn and Quinton Sample have been stellar in coverage, while Mike Parry and Deshazor White have been a great one-two punch on the pass rush.
Sample is also producing on special teams, having scored on 3 kicks and 3 punts.
On the first play from scrimmage of the season, Quinton Sample has this 22-yard pick-six.
Ryan Winston connects with Nate Ijalana.
Donald Wolfe scores a long touchdown.
Sterling Maclin finds an opening and scores against the Kingfish.
Jacquies Britt misses his tackle and Sample makes it to the endzone for a 105-yard punt return TD.
After a quiet opening day, Phil Quinn has two pick-sixes of over 80 yards against Portland.
Jason Peterson connects with Ijalana.
Backup FB Tank Byrd scores his first career TD.
Quinn has another interception.
Thankfully, the Blizzard has more firepower, because rookie Colin Walker was unstoppable. Walker scored on two runs, two long receptions and a kick return.
Quinn forces a fumble, which is returned by Mike Parry for a TD.
Wolfe scores another long TD.
On fourth down, Lee Mauro catches this pass and beats the defenders to the endzone.
Deshazor White sacks Mykkele Succop.
MLB Tim Kelly had a great game, but here he is beaten to the endzone by Maclin.
Mike Parry strip-sacks Kevin Benenoch.
Chris Boyle throws a TD pass to rookie Charles McCoy.
The Blizzard started the season strongly, building a 5-0 record.

The Blizzard's situation may be puzzling, but the Ironmen's is quite bad, with starter Nick Mager throwing just 3 TDs (to 6 interceptions and 2 fumbles) in 5 games.
Pittsburgh asked Anchorage for help, but paid a hefty price, hoping that it will turn things around for them. Chris Boyle has been traded to Pittsburgh to become the Ironmen's starting QB. But Anchorage receives a first-round pick, as well as backup CB Trevin Smith.
Aside from the 1-4 Ironmen's, the Blizzard also holds the first-round picks of the 0-4 Bulls and the 2-3 Termites.

Re: Anchorage Blizzard in the FI Football League
Draft pick watch
The Blizzard holds three first-round picks in the upcoming draft.
-Pittsburgh: The Ironmen finished 4-12, tied for last with the Phantoms and Quakers. If the in-game ranking is accurate, this pick should be 1st overall. If not, top 3.
-Toronto Bulls: The Bulls finished at 6-10. This should be good for the 10th overall pick.
-Tyler: The Termites had a shaky start, but finished 8-8 with the inspired play of Jeremy McManus. This pick should be 18th overall.
Anchorage also holds Tokyo's second-round pick. After finishing last (3-13) the previous season, the Owls surprised everyone and went 12-4 to clinch the #2 seed in the NFC. This pick will therefore be late in the round.

Playoffs recap
The Vipers slowed down the Blizzard's running game for a while, but it didn't last. All phases of play contributed, and the host team emerged victorious.
Jamie Gronkowski contributed with 2 sacks.
Quinton Sample had this pick-six, as well as a 79-yard punt return TD.
The RailRiders outlasted the Apocalypse in the divisional round, setting up a rematch of week 17.
For this AFC championship game, Birmingham improved on its run defense, which had already slowed down Maclin in the regular season (still, 188 yards and 3 TDs, but it took him 36 attempts).
Frank Bullard opened the score with his first of 3 TDs on the day.
Zac Zeitler appeared to neutralize this pass, but it bounced off his helmet and into Donald Wolfe's hands.
After all these years, Eddie Marz is still dangerous on kick returns.
New TE1 Tre Smith contributes with this TD reception.
Patrick Hewitt is one of many who denied Maclin of a touchdown. In fact, he would rush below 100 yards for the first time of the year.
Nordly Long gave Birmingham a two-possession lead.
Maclin would finally cross the plane in the final minute, but the team would fail to recover the onside kick.
Not at all the result we hoped, or expected. Way too many crucial plays that were not converted, including a missed 60-yard field goal that fell just short, despite strong wind in the kicker's favor. Also, a failed 4th down conversion in the red zone. And a lot of plays that could have been passes, but the team insisted on running.
The RailRiders faced the Snowcats in the Super Bowl game.
Laurent Garcon threw 2 short touchdown passes (to Bennett Clay and Myles Collins) and Winnipeg's defense did the rest, limiting Birmingham to a field goal.
The Snowcats win their second straight Super Bowl. Final score: RailRiders 3, Snowcats 14.
Congratulations, Snowcats!
