Nate Washinton (WR), Severe Concussion. Career Ending.
What the... I have never seen a career ending injury in Madden. Wow.
I usually see 1 career ending injury at the end of the season on simmed games. I never saw one happen mid game to one of my guys.
I've only ever seen one. RB Brett Greer. I drafted him and Mickey Austin both in the 2nd round and had them compete to start. Austin won the job and became the greatest RB I ever had. Greer had a career ending injury at only 25 years old.

I guess Madden's RNG decided to make me unlucky on this one. BTW, you noticed the hilariously high amount of QB injuries I had right? Anyway you think I could lower them? I'm guessing that the 111% Injury slider is good for most players, except for QBs (Seems a bit high) and OLine (Seems a tad low).

I get a ton of QB injuries even under 100%. So... Just live with it.
Quick Week 6 update. Since this is our BYE week, we only watch the rest of the league. We made some moves to address the FS position. We signed Omar Stoutmire to a 1 year, $1.5M deal with 40% guaranteed. He played 2 seasons with the Cowboys, went to the Jets for 1 year, then played 5 years for the Giants before going to Washington for a year, then to the Saints for another year. While he is not as fast as a safety could be, he is definitely an effective backup.
As for our injury front, Ben Roethlisberger was able to practice on full capacity for this next game, and he will be starting. Quick notes: I will be limiting myself to the real life Salary cap for each season. The CPU will be able to use the Madden defined salary cap. In other news, I'll used MaddenAMP's feature to alter player ratings to try to lower QB Injuries. There is an specific slider for that. With that adjustment, my team (As well as our opponents QBs, Jay Cutler and Patrick Ramsey of the Broncos) QBs now have 99 Injury rating. The exception is the Injury Prone QBs, like our own Charlie Batch, who now has 95 Injury (From 50). And the great thing is that at the end of the season (After the Pro Bowl), I can just revert to the original injury ratings, which is great.

Prior to our Week 7 matchup, I had to re-organize the Depth Chart to account for the injuries of Willie Parker, Anthony Smith, the signing of Omar Stoutmire and the retirement of Nate Washington. Here is the new, updated roster with 3 additional depth chart positions:
Slot Wide Receiver (SWR): The receiver that will be lined up as the slot receiver in 3 wide sets. The number 2 in this position will be the 2nd slot wide out if we don't line up a TE.
Slot Cornerback (SCB): Like above, but for the CB position.
Sub Inside Linebacker (SILB): For Dime 4-1-6, Dollar 3-2-6 and Quarter 3-1-7, the ILB that will cover HBs and or TEs.
Remember, Yellow means the general OVR is higher than 90. Blue means the general OVR is lower than 70. We are operating with the league minimum 4 WRs. I usually like to keep 6 just because of this. We might consider trades to solve this situation, although I'm not sure who would be traded. Right now, I'm testing some adjustments to the penalty sliders which is why I have not uploaded the game just yet. That means I had to delete images of the greatest punt ever (It left the field and the half inch line), but we were leading 22-0 after the ensuing safety.

RevanFan wrote:You have the "Madden spelling" of Roethlisberger in your depth chart. It hurts my eyes, haha.
Haha. Yeah, I simply copied it from the Roster CSV file, and never bothered to fix it. It still makes me crack up every now and then. I might remember myself to fix it, as well as any player that can't have his full name in Madden (Like ... say .. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie)

All right, this was one of the most frustrating games I've coached so far, because Ben Roethlisberger was very stupid. Anyway, we are headed to Denver to face the Broncos. They have the top defense in the league, mostly because they have 2 elite shutdown corners on both sides of the field. And their run defense is awesome, so we might have trouble pounding the ball. Yet, they are 1-4 because their offense is terrible. Tends to happen when a 1 year Jay Cutler is your QB. However, I went to their Injury report and it shows this:
So half the field will be open to throw the ball. Still Dre' Bly, the other corner, is pretty dangerous. Additionally, I lowered by Injury Slider to 102%. Don't worry, I have plans to compensate for the low amount of injuries.
Deshea Townsend, could we please focus on hitting the ball and not the punter?
We would try a Gary Russell Trick Pass to get a TD, but it didn't work.
Man, good thing that QBs don't know how to throw comeback routes. Then again, my strategy when I play relies on comeback routes, which CPU Big Ben has a 30% chance of throwing properly.
Javon Walker was out of the game after a solid tackle by Lawrence Timmons.
Dang, the Broncos punter is pretty good.
You know, I hate when CBs, specially shutdown corners, just ... stare ... at the receiver as he makes the catch.
Najeh Davenport doesn't care it's John Lynch trying to tackle him, he has reservations for 6. 10-0 Steelers.
Usually, I wouldn't post this image of a kicker getting ready to try a 53 yarder, because it would be a miss. However, this is Jason Elam (Who has a cannon for a leg), and we are in Denver, it's going to be successful.
Hah, Daniel Sepulveda is pretty good at punting. It was so good of a punt that the Broncos simply ran the clock out.
Halftime.
Yes, Jason Elam can also nail 55 yarders.
Wooo .... too close to a block.
Willie Reed muffs this punt, and you know how I think this is unacceptable. Now, he will only return kickoffs, while Allen Rossum (You know, the guy I benched a while ago for muffing a punt) gets punts. I would place Santonio Holmes, but he's our #2 receiver.
At least our defense is good enough to stop the Broncos before they cross the goalline. We forced another FG. 10-9 Steelers.
I hate tip drill picks. Ben deserves it for throwing it to a tightly covered Hines Ward.
Again, a shutdown corner got Mossed by Santonio Holmes.
Heath Miller TD happens after one of the CBs got called for DPI on Hines Ward.
And a Gary Russell 2 Point Conversion.
Then, a while later, Ben forces another pass. Got picked. For six ... and we are down. 18-19 Broncos.
He gets another chance, but throws incomplete to ... someone ... not sure.
But the D gives him yet ANOTHER chance!
It led to this, Jeff Reed getting ready for a game winner. I would be a bit worried if this wasn't Denver. Right now it is like putting Chris Boswell to kick a game winner ... well ... 2017 Chris Boswell. BTW, poor clock management by the Broncos here. We reached FG range with 40 seconds on the clock. They could have started to call timeouts, but simply allowed us to run the ball a bit to center it and chew clock.
Welp, the Fumble Fix script didn't show the proper trajectory of the ball. Anyway, kick is good and we escape with a win we should not have.

Yeah ... the run game didn't really work.
Ok, two things. First, Willie Parker was cleared to practice and to play, so he is back to the top of the Depth Chart as both our starting back and the 3rd Down back. I plan to train Gary Russell in the off-season to be an elite receiving back for 3rd down scenarios, but for now we have Parker.
Second, remember when I was talking about me having a way to handle injuries without having to rely on the Injury Slider? Well, back when MaddenAMP's source code was in SourceForge, I managed to get the code that simulated both Training Camp Injuries and CPU Training Camp injuries. I read the formula that determines when a player gets hurt and when not (For the player Training Camp, one of the values is too low, which results in pretty much no injuries), and adjusted it a bit. I will use that formula (Actually, a couple of formulas) to determine if a player gets hurt during the practice prior to the week's game. If you are interested in the formulas, you can open up the spoiler here:
Spoiler:
The initial number, called "Initial Injury Projection" or "IIP" (Just made that up) is this:
If the Injury Chance is higher than the "IIP", then the player is injured. Next, I have to determine the length and type of injury. Fortunately, MaddenAMP's code has a long list of injuries, ranging from Bruised Shoulders, Strained Ankles, and Pulled Groins, to Torn Shoulders, Torn Biceps and MCL and PCL Tears (There is a 3% chance of that ever happening, so don't worry ... too much). Remember when we got robbed of DeShaun Watson's exciting rookie season because a grass leaf attacked him and he had an ACL tear during training between weeks? Well, that could very well happen here. Let's just hope it's not too often and not too heavy on the injury department. Hopefully just bruised shoulders for our kickers and bruised ankles for our QBs, as long as it doesn't affect their throwing accuracy too much.
There can be a max of 3 injuries per week. I would say that there would be 4 injuries before and after a Thursday Night Game, but from what I've read, there is not a spike in injuries during Thursday Night Games, despite what players might want you to believe. So, 3 per week tops. There could be weeks with no injuries, so keep that in mind.
Additionally, I will start playing around with the sliders a bit more, with one very specific rule. The max amount I can increase a slider is to 60, the max I can lower it to is 40. This is so that ratings still play an important part in how interactions between players are determined. Those times 'Dre Bly got Mossed by Santonio Holmes? Probably the Knockdown slider being at 6.

Starting Center Sean Mahan has been dealing with a forearm injury. He is still expected to start, but we might pull him out if he struggles or aggravates his injury.
3rd string RB Najeh Davenport twisted his ankle during practices. He is still expected to play, but in more limited snaps than usual.

We are headed to Cincinnati to face the Bengals. They are at 2-4 and are not that great. Both their offense and defense are solid. At offense, they have Carson Palmer at QB and Chad Johnson at WR. No, he won't change his name to "Ochocinco" in this franchise.
You know something that is far better in the newer Maddens? In QB sneaks, the QB falls forward.
Welp, that could be a problem. Larry Foote, our RILB, went down and didn't came back. We'll check after the game what happened.
Heath Miller needs run blocking training: Exhibit A
Heath Miller is a deep threat TE: Exhibit A. Note, since I switched my Sub Out/In setting to 60/80, Michaels and Madden have been better at commentating. Earlier they would have said this was a quick pass, like a screen or a slant. On this one, they said it was a great deep ball.
Willie Parker, hang onto the ball please. Fortunately, the defense held the Bengals to a FG.
Now Ben is hurt. He was out for the game.
After Jeff Reed missed a 55 yard FG, Casey "Big Snack" Hampton punched through the Bengals line and forced a fumble.
Yep, Charlie Batch's first pass was a TD to Hines Ward.
Halftime. Jeff Reed missed a 51 yarder before this.
First pick of the day for Carson Palmer. Thanks to Bryant McFadden.
On the very next play, Charlie Batch wasn't looking towards Hines Ward (At least, QB Vision was't focused on him) and that prevented him seeing that a LB was between Ward and him. Ended up in a pick.
Very next play, Deshea Townsend failed to see the ball and got beat for six.
The pass by Batch was not great. He was hit, so that happens. But Heath adjusted pretty well.
Then the quick 2 point play puts us up, 18-15 Steelers.
Deshea Townsend starts making plays, as he defended 3 passes in a row to T.J. Houshmandzedah (I think it is written that way). The Bengals only tie the game after a FG.
Something I hate from Charlie Batch. His indecision.
And his ignorance of LBs over the middle.
The Steelers hold the Bengals to a FG. But that FG is the go ahead FG.
Then Batch threw a pick to Deltha O'Neal. What else is new?
Very next play? Carson Palmer dropped back to pass (Why?), and fired to a tightly covered Chad Johnson. Ike Taylor, who was great at shadowing Johnson (4 receptions for 26 yards, 2 passes dropped), uncharacteristically caught the ball and turned up field for the go ahead pick six.
Then another ball intended for Johnson ends in Ike Taylor's hands, sealing the win.

I'm still playing around with slider sets. I'll try KeepinItTeal's set, with the Blocking sliders, Holding penalty and Break Block sliders at 50, Punt Catch Interference and Defensive Awareness at 50 (Punt Catch Interference seems to serve as a general play recognition and awareness modifier), False Start at 25 (For some Odd reason, 25 seems to make DBs play deep coverage better. At least to me, not sure why) and Adjusted Special Teams Sliders and see how it goes
All right, we are getting close to the trade deadline (Self implaced rule: I removed the Trade Deadline option, but I can't trade anyone after Week 9), I'm considering a few players to trade. We definitely could use a WR, even as a backup. One of my possible players to be traded is Deshea Townsend, CB. He did have a good game, but the rest of the year, he's been an up and down corner. We'll see if we get a WR and/or a pick for him. We would have Bryant McFadden as CB2 and William Gay as SCB (Fact, the 2010 Steelers had that alignment at CB. Not the best, but Townsend is a 31 year old veteran. I'd rather start developing those 3 guys.). Other than him, I don't think there is anyone else I'd like to trade.
I'll address the state of the league and our injuries and any roster change on the "Looking around the league" post, which is next.
