Pittsburgh Steelers -- A Rookie's learning way to Franchise Mode

The Steelers stay at home and face the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens lost their last game after getting blown out by the Colts 35-9. The Steelers are without their best receiver, but have the most dynamic running back in the league. The Ravens have a solid defense and a decent offense. Who will win this battle in Heinz Field?

The Ravens 2nd drive was an exhausting 7 minute, 17 plays drive that looked like it would end in a TD eventually.


Eventually, the Steelers stopped the Ravens a few yards short, as Ryan Shazier tackles Mike Wallace


J.R. Garrett proceeds to undo everything the Ravens managed to achieve in their last drive, by fielding the kickoff and taking the ball 102 yards to the other endzone for a TD, giving the Steelers a 7-3 lead.


And so ends the 1st quarter.


Joe Haden gets the first turnover of the game, as he picks off Joe Flacco when he tries to connect with Mike Wallace.


Le'Veon Bell gets an outside handoff and manages to get a lot of yards before anyone is able to converge and tackle him.


JuJu Smith-Schuster hauls in the TD pass completely uncontested and alone, giving the Steelers a 14-3 lead.


Artie Burns gets pick number 2 of the game, stalling the Ravens even further.


Pretty much perfect blocking allow the Steelers to get closer to the endzone. However, they would have to settle for 3 points.


That ends the 1st half.


Josh Dobbs fails to arc the ball over C.J. Mosley, and gets intercepted.


During AB's absence, some players had to come up big. One of them was Jesse James, who hauled 5 passes through the full game. He is followed by Le'Veon Bell who also made 5 catches.


Le'Veon Bell had a great run and showed great moves and vision out of the backfield.


That is followed by Bell taking the hand off and just walking into the David DeCastro, and into the endzone.


The Ravens finally get their gears in comeback mode, Flacco connects with Darrius Heyward-Bey deep down the field.


That ends the 3rd quarter.


The Ravens finally get a TD, as Joe Flacco connects with Brandon LaFell.


This is followed by a successful 2 point conversion, as Flacco connects with Eric Ebron.


That was followed by a 16 play, 7 minute drive that ended with a Le'Veon Bell TD. It was very similar to the Ravens' drive in the 1st quarter.


The Ravens get a small chance to win the game, as Brandon La Fell catches the ball in the endzone. They still need to recover 2 onside kicks to get close to tying or winning the game.


Despite being surrounded by Black and Gold jerseys, no Steeler can recover the onside kick, and is recovered by the Ravens.


Flacco connects with Mike Wallace. After the extra point, the score is 28-31 Steelers with 1 minute on the clock. The Ravens need one more onside kick to complete the comeback.


Fortunately, the result of the last kick doesn't repeat. James Conner picks up the ball and the Steelers recover. This is followed by him getting hit and fumbling, and the ball being recovered by the Ravens. However, the play was reviewed. James Conner was down before fumbling the ball. It is Steeler football.


The Steelers make a risky call. On 4th and 2 at the 35 yard line, which is a bit outside of Chris Boswell's range. There is 45 seconds on the clock. The Steelers go for it. Josh Dobbs connects with James Conner past the first down marker, pretty much ending the game.

The Offensive Player of the Game (As well as the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week) was Le'Veon Bell. 158 Combined Yards. 110 yards on 20 carries, plus 48 yards on 5 receptions. 2 Rushing TDs.
The Defensive Player of the Game was Joe Haden, 4 Tackles, 1 Interception, 4 Passes defended.

The League's Offensive Player of the Week was Todd Gurley (RB, Los Angeles Rams). 126 Yards in 32 carries, 1 TD. 8 catches, 100 yards. 1 TD.
The League's Defensive Player of the Week was Obi Melifonwu (S, Oakland Raiders). 6 Tackles, 1 Interceptions, one of them a pick six.

The Steelers still stay at home to face the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. The Patriots are 1-1 so far, and are looking to improve their record. However, their games against the Steelers in recent years have not gone so well. The Steelers are looking for a 3-0 start. Will they be able to make it 3-0 or will they go down to 2-1?


Look at the Bengals though. A W here is now a number 1 priority.


Joshua Dobbs has been struggling a bit with his accuracy. This pass concept went like this. A PA fake, then Dobbs rolls out to the right and fires it to Jesse James, who is running a Corner route. Antonio Brown was running a streak meant to clear out space for Jesse. Dobbs did throw it to Jesse, but it was off target. AB had the ability to adjust to the poor pass that wasn't even intended for him and make the catch.


You don't run an all out blitz against this Steelers offense. They know it's coming and whoever lines up in the slot will make a catch right behind you and eat a chunk of yards.


Brown manages to lose Stephon Gilmore and gets wide open in the endzone. I'm hoping AB can get back on track on being the top wideout in the league. That's despite missing 2 games. Let's see what he can do. The running game is struggling today, is one of those games.


That's James White coming out of the backfield. The run defense decided to show up a few time in this game. This was not one of them. The positives of this? We held them to a field goal, and that's good.


Brian Allen nearly kills Branding Cooks with this hit. He forced a fumble, which Cam Sutton promptly picked up for a TD. Great Special Teams play. It's even better when it is against Bill Belichick's Special Teams Unit.


Good 1st quarter. The running game is STILL struggling a lot. We might have to run screens and empty sets to get the backs involved.


After a solid drive, Julian Edelman lined up in the slot, ran a post against Cover 2 (Why teams always do that?) and took it the distance.


This was a rather uneventful quarter. Until the 2 minute warning game by. Gronk over the middle. Fortunately, Sean Davis made the tackle, although just barely.


Then Julian Edelman on the Corner route. And the Pats are on top.


Which is followed by a INT after the running game kept failing and Josh Dobbs didn't put enough speed to a pass to Le'Veon Bell.


Quickly followed by a James White TD, in another snap where the run defense was non existent.


On the very next play from scrimmage, Antonio Brown was left one-on-one against Patrick Chung. Brown just needed to make a cut to the sideline to lose Chung and take the ball 75 yards in to the endzone.

This next play deserves some context. It is a 4th and 4, on the Patriots' 41 yard line. There are 0:26 on the clock, so even if we lose possession, the Patriots won't be able to get a lot. A field goal from this distance is nigh impossible for Chris Boswell (He's good, but not that good), so we go for it. Empty 2x3 set. JuJu Smith Schuster with Deon Cain on the slot to the left, Le'Veon Bell in the slot between Jesse James and Antonio Brown split out wide right. Josh Dobbs on the Gun. The idea was that Jesse James was running a quick out and would fall forward for a first down, after which we would call a time out and see what we could do. Instead ...


The Pats played Cover 2 and AB was running a streak, and I wasn't going to let a chance like that go away. Patrick Chung was simply too far away from the action (He was covering Le'Veon Bell, who ran a post. For some reason, he was covering Bell towards the middle and not Brown towards the sideline) That's another TD and the Steelers are back on top.



Reminder, the running game is struggling. But Josh Dobbs is on fire today.


Good lord, James White is running free. Good thing Ryan Shazier is incredibly fast and has an unstoppable motor.


There was not much to see in this drive. The one interesting thing? The incredibly rare Tom Brady scramble, coupled with the incredibly rare Tom Brady broken tackle.


Chris "Boz" Boswell also made a field goal to put us up by a TD. That's about it.


Artie Burns got lost in this play and that allowed Julian Edelman (Yet again) to score a TD.


Whoever though that putting a linebacker on AB was going to work must be fired.


I refused to pass on this drive, despite leading. We would have had to punt quickly if we did. So, I went with another method. A lot of RB Screens. On this one, it was Conner's turn. he took the pass and ran it all the way to the endzone.


Antonio Brown keeps making Stephon Gilmore look absolutely silly. We would only get a FG out of this drive, sadly. That leaves the Patriots with about 5 minutes to score 10 points. They could do it, I mean, it's Tom Brady back there.


They made a smart call and kicked the FG on 4th down. That leaves down by 7 with about 2 minutes to go. Onside kick time.


JuJu Smith Schuster recovers the kick. We ended up going 3 and out though.

The game didn't let me take a picture of the last play of the quarter. 0:10 to go, the Patriots come out in a 2x2 set, Julian Edelman and Malcolm Mitchell in the slot to the left, Brandin Cooks and Rob Gronkowski split wide right, with James White in the backfield, Brady on the Gun. We came out in a 4-1-6 Dime set, and played Cover 4, all zone. Cam Heyward got nearly instant pressure, forcing Brady to roll out. He managed to heave up the ball to Julian Edelman before getting hit sticked by T.J. Watt. Edelman made the catch and got tackled.


A yard short. A solid tackle by Sean Davis ended the game right there.

If you didn't realize it yet, the offensive player of the week (Both for our team and for the league) was Antonio Brown with 8 catches for 252 yards, 102 YAC and 3 TDs. The follow up would be Josh Dobbs (28-of-43, 449 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, 121.1 Passer Rate. Managed to out play Tom Brady by far).
The Defensive player of the week was Ryan Shazier with 8 tackles, 1 of them for loss, 1 pass defended and 1 big hit. The follow ups are T.J. Hi, people. Yoy probably noticed that I stopped uploading games. I'm going to pull off a WWE-like retirement, I stopped playing Madden NFL 08 a while ago, because I'm not really finding to fun, the game seems to lack difficulty or a smart AI , but I'll eventually un-retire ( to play this game and start another Journal. I'll still be around, but I'm not playing the game ... at least for now.
