Is Chris Kelson fast or strong? I notice that is OVR is 78, but something besides Campbell retiring had to draw you to him? Unless he was scouted badly. I'm trying to figure why your first pick was only a 78 OVR. Although I have to say I've had worse drafts than this. Good job overall!!!

2024 Draft Class:
• 1.32: RE Chris Kelson, 6’5” 308lbs., Michigan State (78)
• 2.4: RT John Cleveland, 6’5” 317lbs., Houston (81)
• 2. 32: WR Newton Young, 6’2” 214lbs., SE Missouri (80)
• 3. 32: RG Tim Dillon, 6’4” 303lbs., USC (79)
• 4. 32: CB Travis Sawyer, 5’8” 176lbs., Georgia (74)
• 5.32: LT B.B. Christensen, 6’7” 340lbs., Texas (68)
• 6. 32: LG Nazarius Agathon, 6’6” 310lbs., Marshall (80)
• 7. 32: LOLB Tony Henley, 5’11” 225lbs., Michigan (64)
You appear to have had a great draft. If his skill set translates to the field, could Nazarius Agathon be the steal of the draft?
Of course, Calais Campbell's retirement is a hard blow, but you can recover from it. I think you had already started preparing for that moment, although I forget the name of the other pass rushers you drafted.
Yeah, I think top to bottom this is the best draft class I've had in the seven seasons of this franchise. And you hit the nail on the head, not only does Nazarius Agathon have the coolest name I've seen for a generated rookie, but there is a good chance he starts at LG on opening day! His run blocking needs to improve (81) but he has the strength rating I like in an OG (92) and a good AWR number for a rookie (75). While Kelson might turn out to be a disappointment (I have the hardest time finding decent rookie DEs), Newton Young could be a future star (95 SPD and 95 ACC!!), Cleveland will push to start at OT, Travis Sawyer is short but could be a deadly KR (98 SPD, 92 ACC and 92 Agility!) and Christensen is a freaking mountain with a lot of upside potential.
I have drafted other DEs over the last few drafts, like I said, I find it tough to scout out and find good ones. We will see how Kelson does, I like his size and strength.

I think I've mentioned this before, but I do my drafts using MaddenAMP and I do not look at any OVR or other ratings beforehand. I only go off the scouting numbers that are provided. I think that's the most realistic method. So, what had me drawn to Kelson was the combination of his size and strength (he had the 2nd highest bench press number of all DEs). Ngakoue is moving over to LE and he's my speed rusher, so Kelson is a good complement to him (I hope). But, like I said in the post above, I have had a difficult time finding decent DEs in the draft.

I use the exact same method for my drafts, which is why I err sometimes. But it's both realistic and fun. OVR 78 is not so bad, I've had worse first-round picks where I was focusing on some amazing specs but overlooked others. Like OT James Strickland, who was super strong but had RBK 66. I'm all for developing prospects, but it would take way too much time to make him even decent at run-blocking.
I find drafting DEs is a gamble, too. If you can draft in the top 5, sometimes there will be someone who is both fast and strong and has decent AWR. But after that, it is very much a mystery until you get the guys on the field. Also, if you don't think it's cheating (I don't), you can consider switching a strong linebacker to DE. Some consider it cheating because most (all?) linebackers have a better OVR when they are switched to the defensive line.

I like the MA draft as well. The only thing different that I haven't heard mentioned is doing a little trick that Revanfan taught me and that is to take control of all 32 teams and skip the first FA period. Then the MA AI even does a better job picking talent as far as what positions each team drafts. Then in the 2nd FA period everyone is there to choose from after your draft is done. I little bit of a stretch from the real NFL, but I feel it works better for the draft.

Nice Pre-Season! I noticed that you don't do a 90-man roster for preseason, any reason for that? I find good talent in those UDFA's. My starting WR is a former UDFA.

Yeah, I can see where that would be fun and interesting, but I guess I'm too ADD to get into that level of detail and time. I like progressing through seasons and getting to the playoffs and Super Bowl (and creating the custom Super Bowl stadiums), so that's what keeps me going.
Kelson is off to a nice start! And, he posted two sacks in week 1 of the regular season! (now I've jinxed it and he'll tank)
