Postby mee » Sat Jan 14, 2017 9:17 pm

I think eveyone can agree this year playoffs needs a re-do. So lets go!

10 min quarters with acc clock, roger's franchise. FF mod. My fieldart.

I'll be controlling one team at a time with this order:
1) Giants
2) Dolphins
3) Patriots
4) Chiefs
5) Lions

Shouldn't need more then that...
So the Giants traded Beckham....

1st round:

Dolphins vs Steelers

The Backstory

The Dolphins' Week 6 30-15 blasting of the Steelers in Miami signaled the breakout game for running back Jay Ajayi. The bulldozer plowed his way through and around Pittsburgh defenders to the tune of 204 rushing yards. Since then, Ajayi has continued his plowing ways, compiling two additional 200-yard games and he ranks first in the NFL in rushing yards since Week 6 with 1,155.

Ajayi will once again be the motor that moves the Dolphins' offense. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin admitted this week his defense will need to stack the box to slow Ajayi, noting his 200-yard performance in Week 6 wasn't an aberration.

Silver: Bill O'Brien's murky job situation in Houston

Orr: Players set for big playoff paydays
Brandt: Brady most trustworthy QB left
Rosenthal: Guys with most to prove
      SBLI: Math model predicts Seahawks-Patriots

"We're not gonna pretend like that was a lightning strike," Tomlin said. "He ran for 200 on Buffalo the second time he played those guys."

Pittsburgh's defense has stiffened since early season struggles and should have Stephon Tuitt back after the lineman missed the past two games. Gang tackling will be vital for the Steelers, who have seen their share of missed tackles this season. Ajayi's 783 rushing yards after contact are the most in the NFL this season. If the back can plow through arm tackles Sunday, he could keep the Dolphins offense churning and the Steelers offensive Triplets on the sideline.

Miami's defense shut down Ben Roethlisberger in Week 6 by battering the quarterback to the tune of six QB hits and two sacks. Much of Big Ben's struggles came thanks to a knee injury he suffered in the second half. Roethlisberger returned, but his mobility and accuracy were clearly compromised (19 of 34 passing for 189 yards 1 TD, 2 INTs).

Vance Joseph's defense usually makes life difficult for Antonio Brown (four catches for 39 in the last meeting). But AB is facing a banged-up secondary missing several key defenders. Byron Maxwell (ankle) is doubtful to play, which is a big blow for Miami's pass defense after the corner helped lock down Brown in Week 6. Le'Veon Bell got slowed the last meeting, but in his first career playoff game should be able to run over a Miami defense that gives up an averaged of 140.4 rushing yards per game. If the Steelers triplets are flying high Sunday, Miami's offense will struggle to keep pace.
Under Pressure

Matt Moore, QB, Dolphins: Those Dolphins fans holding out hope Ryan Tannehill might return for postseason play got their dreams dashed. The 32-year-old Moore will make his first postseason start. Of the three backup quarterbacks starting in the AFC, Moore provides the most experience, starting 28 career games. Moore can run the offense, but his limitations could hamstring Adam Gase's playcalling. Moore's inability to consistently stretch the defense allows defenses to crowd the line of scrimmage, which hinders the run game and quick-passing attack that relies on YAC to move the chains. Those restrictions are particularly noticeable on deep outs and passes in the 15-20 yard range. Moore is 14-of-29 passing with a 2-3 TD-INT ratio and a 68.0 passer rating on passes of 10-plus air yards this season. When Moore does uncork his deep shots against a Steelers secondary that can be susceptible to miscommunication, the veteran can't miss.

Steelers young defenders: In Pittsburgh's seven-game winning streak, the defense has gone from a spotty operation to a force. In the past seven weeks, the Steelers rank in the top four in points per game allowed (17.3) and yards per game (293.6), and are first in sacks (25). That improvement is largely thanks to the development of rookies defenders. Corner Artie Burns, safety Sean Davis and nose tackle Javon Hargrave have breathed life into a porous defense, solidifying the back end and mucking up the ground game. The return of Bud Dupree also can't be overlooked as the Steelers have got after the quarterback with more regularity since he was given the majority of snaps opposite James Harrison. Versus Ajayi and the Dolphins, will Tomlin's young players continue their stout play in a big spot or regress back towards the mean?
Matchup to Watch

Dolphins D-line vs. Steelers O-line: The Dolphins mauled Big Ben in the first meeting. It's not a surprise that performance coincided with Cameron Wake's entrance into the starting lineup. The 34-year-old went from a pass-rush specialist to a wrecking ball, leading the team with 11.5 sacks and spurring Comeback Player of the Year consideration. The Steelers boast an underrated offensive line, but the combination of Wake off the edge and Ndamukong Suh up the middle could make it a long day for Big Ben. It's paramount for Miami to pester the quarterback to help cover up injuries and deficiencies on their back seven. If Roethlisberger has all day to throw, the score will get out of hand quickly for Miami.
Prediction

Most are calling for an easy home win for Pittsburgh, but I think it will be tight heading into the fourth quarter. Adam Gase has done too good a job coaching to see his team blown out in their first playoff appearance since 2008. Vance Joseph -- a hot head coaching candidate -- is familiar with the Steelers from his days in Cincinnati and will make it difficult on Pittsburgh's triplets. At the end of the day, however, talent wins out. Matt Moore won't make enough plays on key third downs while Big Ben, Brown and Bell will be too much for the injured Dolphins defense. Pittsburgh pulls away in the fourth quarter.

Raiders vs Texans
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

The Backstory

The last time these teams met, back on Nov. 22 in Mexico City, Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler was still hanging tooth-and-nail onto his status as the guy in Houston while Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was continuing his push toward a division title, first-round bye and an MVP trophy.

My, how things have changed.

Osweiler will be under center Saturday, but only because Tom Savage is still in concussion protocol. Osweiler was benched toward the end of the season following a four-game stretch when he completed fewer than 60 percent of his passes for just 643 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions for an average passer rating of 59.8. In a system that emphasized ball control and the occasional big play from a cannon-armed quarterback, Osweiler could not deliver.

Carr will be rooting from the sidelines. Taking his place is 2016 fourth-round pick Connor Cook -- the first rookie in the Super Bowl era to make his first start in the playoffs. Matt McGloin, Carr's immediate No. 2, is also injured. He underwent an MRI for a shoulder issue earlier in the week.

At the beginning of the season, before we knew of the dark turns in store or just how disastrous the Texans' offense would become, this would have been pegged as a dream matchup for fans who love good football. Instead, it will be a showcase for fans of good defenses. Khalil Mack will look to pester Osweiler just like he did in Mexico, while first-time Pro Bowler Jadeveon Clowney is looking for a true breakout moment against a quarterback who might be hearing footsteps.
Under pressure

Osweiler and Bill O'Brien: I find it hard to believe that the Houston Texans would move on from a very good football coach just because he was saddled with a nearly untenable situation at quarterback, but I also consider myself a rational person. This game is a proving ground for Houston. Regardless of what has happened to J.J. Watt, the Texans still have a No. 1 overall pick lining up at defensive end and a quarterback who started in the regular season. Houston still has Lamar Miller and DeAndre Hopkins. Their list of potential excuses is far shorter than the one the Raiders have. In terms of fan appreciation, Osweiler is on his last legs -- something he is well aware of. The tandem of O'Brien and Osweiler has just a few days to put any lingering resentment to the wayside and come up with a game plan that will allow the quarterback to get comfortable and eliminate the scattershot, non-rhythmic moments that have defined their season.

Oakland's offensive line: Outside of the Cowboys, Oakland's offensive line might be the most exceptional front five we've seen in football this season. They would need to deliver something of a Cowboys-esque performance against Houston to give rookie quarterback Connor Cook a chance. It's so easy to say that establishing the running game will make life easier for a young quarterback. But this is something different. Johnathan Joseph should be back and A.J. Bouye is playing better than almost any cornerback in the NFL right now. Bouye will take either Amari Cooper or Michael Crabtree out of the equation, eliminating many of the primary reads Cook will have. That leaves a front five that must account for the run-hungry Clowney and still find ways to spring Latavius Murray. Adding to the complications, Houston will likely do what it did last time against the Raiders and load up with a heavy front instead of its base 3-4 look.
Matchup to watch

Brock Osweiler vs. himself: In re-watching the last Texans-Raiders matchup, I saw a quarterback with the mental capacity to battle back against horrible mistakes -- like hurling a goal-line pass at a defender's hands, then catching it as it was batted back to Osweiler six yards behind the line of scrimmage. But on that same drive, he was threading a 12-yard touchdown pass into Braxton Miller at the slightest glimpse of inside leverage and open space.

Many people have made up their minds about Osweiler, and that's fine. But to me, there are long stretches of football when we see two completely different quarterbacks. There are moments when he can utilize his tight ends and short-yardage route for slow-killing effectiveness. It's when he's placed in an obvious passing down with his back against the wall that his stork-like gait loses its rhythm and we see footballs fired into double or triple coverage.

Harrison: Game predictions in the Divisional Round
Silver: Bill O'Brien's murky job situation in Houston
      Rosenthal: Top 25 free agents
Wesseling: Stop with the 'Brock is back' talk!
Orr: Players set for big playoff paydays
Brandt: Brady most trustworthy QB left
Rosenthal: Guys with most to prove
      SBLI: Math model predicts Seahawks-Patriots

There's a cautious way for O'Brien to call this game while mixing in some simple throws for Osweiler that can make all the difference Saturday. If it were easy, he would have been doing it all season. This will take the kind of relationship that neither has seemed interested in having with one another all season, but it's not impossible. The two different quarterbacks that seem to inhabit the 6-foot-8 passer can be boiled down into an interested and invested player if the circumstances are right. Will Houston give Osweiler that chance?
Prediction

The weight on Houston coming into this game is incredible. The embarrassment of losing at home to a team starting a rookie quarterback for the first time is the kind of franchise-altering gut punch that follows players and coaches around for years.

The Texans will not let that happen.

Sensing the mammoth impact on both of their careers, Osweiler and O'Brien put aside their differences and create a tenable situation for at least one week. Oakland's defense will pester and make this situation extremely difficult. In the end, Osweiler makes just enough of an impact to win, tossing a pair of touchdowns and finishing with no interceptions. Miller will add the third score, putting the game to bed with fewer than 40 combined points.

Houston Texans 21, Oakland Raiders 13

Lions at Seahawks:
Preview!
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

The Backstory

It's Detroit against the world.

Having not won a playoff game since 1991, the Lions are aiming to correct that ill after dropping their final three tilts of the season to the Giants, Cowboys and Packers. That ugly feat made the Lions the first team since 1970 to enter the postseason after dropping three straight to playoff teams within their own conference.

Harrison: Game predictions in the Divisional Round
Silver: Bill O'Brien's murky job situation in Houston
      Rosenthal: Top 25 free agents

Orr: Players set for big playoff paydays

Rosenthal: Guys with most to prove
      SBLI: Math model predicts Seahawks-Patriots

The loss to Green Bay was especially rugged, coming at home before of a frothing Lions crowd hoping to see their star-crossed club win its first division title since 1993. Instead, Detroit is being asked to hit the road and win a January tussle with the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field, perhaps the grittiest venue league-wide.

Unless you've been hidden away in a secret government bunker, you know how Detroit got here: Despite trailing in the fourth quarter during a league-leading 15 of 16 games, the Lions leaned on quarterback/magician Matthew Stafford to deliver eight fourth-quarter comebacks, the most by any passer in a single season since 1950.

Authoring an upset would require Stafford and friends to outmaneuver Seattle's third-ranked scoring defense. The 'Hawks haven't been the same without All-Pro safety Earl Thomas, but this remains a top-10 defense that knows how to make life hell for opposing quarterbacks.

Concerns about Seattle's offense linger -- especially a once-mighty ground attack that has been held below 100 yards in 10 games. But coach Pete Carroll's charges have earned our trust in January, and certainly at home against a Lions team that has redefined "backing into the playoffs."
Under Pressure

Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions: Ask any visiting signal-caller about playing in Seattle. It's a rough-and-tumble assignment, especially for a passer who remains winless in the playoffs (0-2) and holds a 5-45 record against teams finishing the season with a winning record. By comparison, Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott already has six victories against winning clubs. That said, Stafford has thrived under creative play-caller Jim Bob Cooter, replacing past mechanical flaws and moments of high frustration with his finest season to date in terms of pure game film. Stafford deserves credit for authoring clutch wins inside an offense that hasn't seen a running back plow for 100 yards in a game since 2013. The Lions desperately need pass-catchers Golden Tate and Marvin Jones to deliver as a tandem alongside the ageless Anquan Boldin and emerging tight end Eric Ebron.

Seahawks running backs: After ranking as the NFL's most dangerous ground game from 2012 through 2015, Seattle ranked 25th in 2016. A whopping 18 different players had a rushing attempt for the 'Hawks in 2016, the most by any team since the 1987 strike year. With C.J. Prosise (shoulder) unlikely to play, Thomas Rawls should see plenty of action. Alex Collins also came in and played well against the Niners last week, but the Seahawks lack a reliable workhorse to take advantage of a Lions defense that has allowed 158.5 yards per game over their last two tilts.
Matchup to Watch

Russell Wilson vs. Detroit's defense: Prior to back-to-back whipping by the Cowboys and Packers, the Lions had held opponents to 20 or fewer points in eight straight games -- a figure that certainly helped Stafford command a handful of his brilliant fourth-quarter comebacks. Wilson's Seahawks, meanwhile, have been a mixed bag on offense, but one that could benefit from a Detroit club that has allowed opponents to complete 72.7 percent of their passes this season, the worst finish by an NFL squad since the 1970 merger. Wilson has been badgered all season behind a ramshackle Seahawks line, but the Lions, on paper, don't match up well with just six sacks over their past seven games and 20 all season, second lowest league-wide.
Prediction

It's easy to dismiss the Lions, but this team has the makings of a roster that could do damage in 2017 and beyond. Stafford's season has been incredibly promising, while gaining playoff experience on the road is invaluable. Had they beaten the Packers to set up a home playoff tilt, Detroit would have been a sneaky choice to make waves in the wild-card round. I can't go there, though, with this game taking place in Seattle. Wilson threw some beautiful long strikes to Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and tight end Jimmy Graham in Week 17. If the running game remains stagnant, I still trust Seattle's passing game to do enough to put this contest out of reach by the fourth quarter. No magic for Matthew this time around.

Giants at Packers
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

The scribes and talking heads tasked with covering this mouthwatering matchup have failed us this week. Football's cognoscenti have been waylaid by tedious finger-wagging over a harmless holiday yachting adventure and tall tales of Eli Manning's Lambeau Field heroics in postseasons of yore.

Don't let the embrace-debate enthusiasts fool you. The football stands on its own merits in the most riveting clash of Wild Card Weekend.

The Packers, a perennial NFC powerhouse, were left for dead leading up to Thanksgiving. Their two-time MVP quarterback faced more scrutiny in the previous month than the past 11 seasons combined. The injury-ravaged defense reached a level of ineptitude not seen since the pre-Lombardi days. The Green Bay faithful were ready to run team architects Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy out of town.

The only way out of that 4-6 hole was to run the table over the final six games. The defense welcomed back reinforcements, Ty Montgomery metamorphosed from an afterthought wide receiver to the No. 1 tailback and -- most importantly -- Aaron Rodgers channeled his MVP magic as the sport's unparalleled quarterback talent.

Just as Rodgers was reascending, New York's defense began to separate from the pack as the class of the league, compensating for a dysfunctional offense. Led by a star-studded secondary, the Giants have allowed an NFL-low 15.3 points per game since Halloween, steadily and significantly improving throughout the season.

Both units are cresting, reaching the height of their powers as the stakes rise with each passing week. Which one will carry that momentum over to the Divisional Round at Dallas or Atlanta?

Players under pressure

Eli Manning, QB, Giants: Evaluate the game, not the name. The stone-cold version of Eli Manning who twice marched through Green Bay on the way to the Super Bowl is long gone, replaced by a liability under center. Reminiscent of his infamous bout with arm fatigue four years ago, Manning's passes have been diving at the feet of his receivers since midseason. His utter inability to throw with authority beyond 15 yards has all but eliminated intermediate and deep passes from the aerial attack, putting the burden on an angle-erasing Odell Beckham to turn simple slant routes into game-altering plays. While Beckham has accounted for a higher percentage of his team's receiving yards than any NFL player, a regressing Manning has authored more turnover-worthy plays than any quarterback.

The Giants 26th-ranked offense has not reached 20 points in five games, a stretch of futility unmatched since Manning's 2004 rookie season. No team ranked worse than 20th has ever made it to the Super Bowl, per NFL Research. If the G-Men are going to escape Lambeau Field this time, Manning will have to hit more throws than he has in any game since October.

Packers cornerbacks: If there's tonic for what's ailing Eli, it can be found in Green Bay's forgiving secondary. Each of Matt Barkley, Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford cleared 340 passing yards in the past three weeks as Damarious Randall earned a benching and Quinten Rollins hemorrhaged big plays. After watching Adam Thielen and Marvin Jones decimate this defensive backfield for 200 yards apiece, it's natural to wonder if Beckham can tip the field on Sunday.

"If I am the New York Giants receivers, I am licking my chops," NFL Network analyst Reggie Wayne said this week. "You can pick your poison. ... Somebody's going to have single coverage, and that guy with single coverage is going to tear them up."

Matchup to watch

Aaron Rodgers vs. New York's defense: Will there be a better matchup throughout the postseason? The hottest passing attack versus the hottest defense. The reigning Offensive Player of the Month facing a leading Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Steve Spagnuolo's exotic blitzes versus an improvisational magician, capable of slicing and dicing defenses inside the pocket and on the run.

Led by strong safety Landon Collins, the NFL's premier cornerback duo in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins and the disruptive defensive-line tandem of Damon "Snacks" Harrison and Olivier Vernon, the Giants defense is even more dominant than commonly believed. Is there a weak spot to be exploited within an outfit that finished the regular season ranked first in touchdowns allowed, second in points per game and passer rating and third in rushing?

The Packers will counter with Rodgers' diverse receiving corps, featuring Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams and Jared Cook. A rejuvenated Jordy Nelson has corralled a staggering 83 percent of his targets over the past six weeks, up from 56.4 percent in the first 10 games. Rodgers recently identified Adams as the team's best route runner, high praise considering Nelson is a true master of the craft. Cook has been a secret weapon, bedeviling defenses down the seam on third downs.

Prediction

Rodgers is Green Bay's ace in the hole, with unmatched arm talent (sheer velocity, release, touch and ball placement) and an uncanny knack for extending plays. "Aaron is playing out of his mind right now," Giants coach Ben McAdoo conceded early this week. "I don't have any kryptonite."

Sunday's showdown is shaping up as a carbon copy of the Giants' 24-14 loss to a more talented Steelers squad in early December. With apologies to Beckham and an outstanding defense, the 2017 version of Manning just doesn't have the arm to stand toe-to-toe with Rodgers five years after outdueling Green Bay's golden gun en route to Super Bowl glory.

As we head to the 2nd half, its a 4 point Giants lead. Beckham and Sheppard both have dropped TDs. Feeling a bit to like real life. Robbie Gould missed a FG as well.

And of course the mandatory glitch:
Divisional Week:
AFC
Steelers(3) at Patriots (1)
Raiders(5) at Chiefs(2)
NFC
Seahawks(3) at Cowboys(1)
Giants(5) at Falcons(2)

Anyone know how to fix that to be this?
AFC
Steelers(3) at Chiefs(2)
Raiders(5) at Patriots (1)
NFC
Seahawks(3) at Falcons(2)
Giants(5) at Cowboys(1)
So the Giants traded Beckham....

You must be a sore loser, replaying the game just to see the Packers lose? If you want to make it an accurate simulation you need to lower the WR catching ability on the Giants to simulate the lousy performance after the field trip.

Actually, a very accurate 4 drops for OBJ and Sheppard.

Anyways enjoy the first competitive game of the playoffs. Just because your team won doesn't make the games fund to watch. Would I do this had the Giants won 38-13? Probably.
