For 1966, Don Meredith got injured for the rest of the game very early in the 1st quarter. Then, early in the second quarter, 1970's Craig Morton got hurt for the rest of the game. Then, when it came to the 4th quarter, Roger Staubach threw an interception very late in the game. Just as it looked all over for 1970, Pettis Norman fumbled and 1970 had the ball again in 1966 territory... then Staubach threw another interception.

It was a wild back and forth game, but 1998 was simply able to overpower 1969 in a stunning upset. 1969's supporters had to deal with an unreal amount of stress, starting with Craig Morton throwing an interception, only to have the intercepting player fumble, and tackle Tony Liscio picking the ball up and scoring. Then, after being beat down for two quarters, 1969 scored a long touchdown, got a quick stop, and drove all the way inside the 15 yard line, looking to potentially go for the win. After the conversion failed on the long touchdown due to a dropped pass, 1969's luck would only get worse, with Craig Morton throwing the late interception to seal the game for 1998. There was drama and heartbreak, but in the end, the heavy favorites from 1969 lose, and 1998 will advance to take on either 1980 or 1975.
