Contract Negotiations

Postby WillProsper » Sun Jul 10, 2016 6:37 pm

We absolutely love our Pro-Bowl SS, Kenny Easley, and are psyched that he has agreed to a 7 year deal. We traded a decent safety and an early draft pick for him last year, and at this point that looks like a steal!

Contract Negotiations

Pro Bowl DT Dave Butz must be part kicker, because he plans to keep playing until he's at least 44! We'll do our best to keep him around that long! And, we are grateful to him for the restructure. He is a true leader who understands the importance of continually adding and developing more talent.

... but frankly, I think Dave's agent really should have insisted on not more than 3.

Pro-bowl or not, this guy is one of the best DE's in the league right now, and we are thrilled to have a long term deal with Dexter Manley!

Same deal with FS Vince Newsome. We feel he is well worth the early draft pick, and good safety we traded for him last year, and his Pro Bowl season proved us right! We are thrilled to have come to a long term agreement! There is absolutely no one else we would rather have up top!

RT Mark May is an excellent blocker. Most of the sacks attributed to him were not his fault. Schroeder often bailed from a secure pocket too soon in the early season. The other's were from Reggie White... and nobody can block that guy. So, we are happy to extend Mark's contract for the maximum term. And, it is helpful that it saves us a bit over the next couple years.

Lets all congratulate R.C. Thielemann on a Pro-Bowl year at RT, and contract extension.

Even though Dean Hamel didn't see any action last year, that is more a tribute to our starters than any reflection on his ability. He is more than ready to jump in whenever the time comes. So, we are happy to have him agree to a long term extension. This makes even more sense from our end, as it puts off the bulk of his salary (which we really couldn't justify for a guy who isn't starting yet) for almost another few years. By then, it will probably seem like a great price!

Great numbers last year from Olkewicz, and we saved a bundle on his restructured contract. He might be able to make Kiffin's system work, even though he doesn't have the speed Monte prefers.

We are happy to offer a full length extension to a solid all around TE, Clint Didler. He had decent receiving metrics last year, considering that he was underutilized. He also posted 12 pancakes against 0 sacks allowed! Levy has hinted at FB potential for Clint as well this year, to try and work him in a bit more.
