A Colts/Blizzard Journal
Re: A Colts/Blizzard Journal
I thought you were going to post the results of the preseason? With screenshots and all? I find it easier to follow the young guys when I see how they do in the preseason.

Re: A Colts/Blizzard Journal
This is a very good idea! I didn’t take screenshots, but I should have posted stats, or at least general observations. So here are some thoughts:
-I considered retooling my offensive line. Roger Stevens would have been considered at guard, Angelo Millen maybe at tackle, and J.J. Maddox definitely at tackle. Maddox had a great preseason, but I decided to keep the starting line intact for this year. (Tayshaun Matthews was almost traded to the rival Steelers).
-I was worried about my lack of depth at WR, but Byron Lucas and Tory Coen both did great. I am in trouble if Sheldon Stone gets injured, though.
-LB Vince Carpenter did a good job as a pass rusher and in coverage. Not stellar, but I want to see what he can do in the regular season. I tried him at DE too, but Terrell Moore (traded to the Centurions) is proving harder to replace than I thought. Nobody stepped up at LE, so I decided to move longtime DT Tervaris Stewart (who was drafted as a DE) back to LE.
-CB Lee Hall didn’t get much playing time, but he did play well enough to stay on the roster.
-I thought TE Guy Beal was going to be a steal for a 7th-rounder, but he turned out to be way too slow and not that good of a blocker.
-Sadly, FB Markus Fitzgerald, TE Richie Rogers and FS Jeffrey Reid were cut after having few chances to prove themselves. I’m not against re-signing them in the offseason.

Season 38 recap
It is not very often that the Blizzard finds itself in a position to mount a comeback. Yet, in week 1 against the Vortices, Anchorage found itself down 21-0 after one and 28-10 in the middle of the second quarter.
But they finally switched on their gears and scored an incredible 57 unanswered points, thanks to impeccable play from all phases.
After that, the Blizzard sailed convincingly to a 16-0 record.
QB Clayton Truman earned his second MVP by throwing for 5366 yards, 80 TDs and just 3 interceptions. His favorite target was TE C.J. Reynolds (147 receptions for 2505 yards and 28 TDs), with WR Sheldon Stone falling short of the 2000-yard mark (78 catches for 1979 yards and 23 TDs). Last year's OPOY, FB Corey Jackson, saw his production decrease, but he still managed 15 TD receptions.
The DPOY award went to newly-acquired LB Vince Carpenter, who had 78 tackles, 28 sacks, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 3 safeties. Interestingly, none of his forced fumbles were on quarterbacks.
LB Lamarr Pritchett regained his starting role and had 60 tackles, 11 sacks and 5 interceptions. Tervaris Stewart, a former DT who had become a cornerstone at his position, enjoyed his best statistical season when moved to LE: 44 tackles, 9 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
HB Bernie Serra almost doubled his production from last year, rushing for 2250 yards and 20 TDs.
Both starting cornerbacks suffered a lost of production, with Eric Baker snatching 9 interceptions (down from 13 last year) and Marc Tanner only grabbing 4 (down from 11).
TE Hunter Wallick catches a TD.
Despite his small stature, C.J. Reynolds can definitely block.
Corey Jackson goes airborne when catching his 15th TD.

Playoffs recap
After dispatching the Ravens, the Blizzard was hosting the Oahu Octopi in what would become a classic game.
Anchorage's woes began late in the Baltimore game, when starting LT Oluwasegun Carroll suffered from a torn groin that would sideline him for the remainder of the playoffs. J.J. Maddox would start in his place, with limited success.
Then early in the AFC championship game, QB Clayton Truman fell too, though he would return in the 3rd quarter.
The Octopi were the first to score when DE Torry Douglas forced a fumble, which would be returned to the house by LB J.T. Carter.
After a Derek Wallick field goal, Oahu would then strike offensively, with David Hutton connecting with Darrell Braxton.
The Blizzard went 3-and-out, and the Octopi marched down the field again. The threat was extinguished when Ben Brown tipped a pass, which was intercepted by Vince Carpenter.
After backup QB Josh Bowman threw a 64-yard TD to Sheldon Stone, Hutton connected with TE Ike Harrison.
Bernie Serra scored on a 6-yard run witn 76 ticks left to the first half. Then Anchorage surprised their opponents by recovering their own onside kick, and turning that possession into a C.J. Reynolds TD and a 25-21 lead at the half.
The Blizzard furthered its lead on special teams, when backup LB Stafon Brown forced a fumble and returned it to the endzone himself.
Backup LB Thomas Hixon also recovered a fumble to allow Stone to increase the lead, this time with a 26-yard pass from Clayton Truman.
The fumble-happy game continued. J.T. Carter forced a fumble, which was returned by Long Foster on 39 yards for the score.
The 4th quarter would be mostly Oahu's. Braxton would catch another TD pass, then Kerry Marsh caught the go-ahead TD pass to make it 40-39. A missed two-point conversion would make it a 1-point game.
With its final possession and deep in its own zone, Truman targeted Stone on 3rd down, but he was stopped by Willie Johnson short of the marker.
On 4th down, a long pass would be caught at the opposing 30-yard line, but time would expire before the team could line up for a field goal. Final score: Octopi 40, Blizzard 39.
Bonus picture: DE Devlin had 3 of the Octopi's sacks.
...while Ryan Wilson had two.
In the NFC, the Cowboys had a seesaw season, finishing 10-6. But they beat the Falcons and Seahawks to make it to the Super Bowl game in Miami.
Both offenses came out flat, and it was a defensive battle. In fact, Oahu's Jameel Ellis caught the lone TD of the game. J.T. Carter had 7 tackles and a sack, Long Foster had 8 tackles and a forced fumble, and Johan Mackey had a key interception.
Torry Douglas had 5 tackles and a sack in what would become his final game in the pros. Final score: Cowboys 3, Octopi 16.
Congratulations, Octopi!

Must be bittersweet for you. Dallas loses, but Torry Douglas finally wins the big game just before retiring.
Re: A Colts/Blizzard Journal
Offseason activity
Anchorage was very busy, both in free agency and on the trade front.
One year after it was first rumored that the team wanted to retool its offensive line, they acted on it.
They traded RT Tayshaun Matthews to the Steelers for the 9th overall pick.
Also holding the 8th from trading HB D'Wayne Pratt to the Seahawks last year, they then shipped RG Tarik Bryan and the 30th overall to the Wildcats for the 17th overall pick and LG J.K. Lewis. Having just missed the postseason, the Wildcats hope that this will help push them into the playoffs. Lewis is a natural guard but can play along the entire offensive line.
In free agency, they added depth at the QB position by signing Calvin Moore. They are also wanting to take another look at RT James Strickland and FS Jeffrey Reid, as they gave them both a 1-year deal.

Notes:
-This is only a guess for the offensive line, as experiments will be conducted during the preseason.
-Can Mack Rodgers regain his confidence and the confidence of the coaches, and jump up the depth chart?
-Randy Lane is a long shot to make the team, unless we figure out how to utilize his skills. He's a bit slow to be a safety, not a good enough tackler to be a linebacker. Maybe a pass-rush specialist?
-Jersey numbers will be attributed to rookies soon and will be reflected on the opening day depth chart.
-As you can see, I don't do the 90-player roster, but I now expand my roster during the offseason. It is currently standing at 65 players, I believe.
