Offseason activity

The Blizzard acquired the 1st overall pick from the Seahawks by sending the reigning MVP QB Dexter Garner, holdout LG Shaun Foley, the 62nd overall pick and a flurry of picks in the later rounds of the upcoming draft. Anchorage is eyeing young scrambling QB Josh Bruce out of Furman.

In other personnel moves, the Yetis released former MVP HB Adrian Jones, who was picked up by the Crawlers, who lost Terrell Grant to the Cowboys.

The Steelers let go of a 4th-round pick to acquire TE Lee Burt from the Blizzard in restricted free agency.

With the good play of Merton Myers, Anchorage released C Drew Owen. He was picked up by the Patriots, who had just let go of another former Yeti, Scott Lawrence.

In an inexplicable move, the Cowboys let WR Anthony Green walk. He was replaced by former Seahawk Greg Payton. It is unsure whether Green and the team had a disagreement, but Dallas seems to have trouble handling wide receivers. This situation is reminiscent of a few years back when they decided to keep an aging Dez Bryant and let young star Muhammad Stafford move to Oakland.

More personnel moves

To round out their roster, the Blizzard signed LG Shannon Little, RG Rob Mainter and CB Brodie Wilder. As Austin Jackson is the only other guard on the roster, both those new linemen, as well as fourth-rounder C/G Twan O'Neal, will fight for a starting spot.

Next update will include a recap of preseason, and predictions for the upcoming season.

Recap: Seasons 15 to 17

I haven't updated in three seasons and I don't know when I'll be more motivated to write, so I figured I would do a quick update.

The Blizzard has won Super Bowls 15 (37-34 in overtime against the Vikings) and 17 (30-3 against Dallas), while the Cowboys claimed Super Bowl 16 (45-17 against the Raiders).

Anchorage struck gold when they traded up to the 1st overall pick and drafted QB Josh Bruce out of Furman. In three seasons, Bruce has thrown for 14738 yards and 184 TDs against just 25 interceptions. He has been the MVP for those 3 years, though QB P.J. Justice has been in the talks.

The running back position has been a revolving door. The Blizzard used the 27th overall pick on Alex Levy, but benched him after he fumbled 5 times in his first 4 games. Then after he fumbled in the preseason, he was definitely benched and eventually released. On both occasions, free agent veteran Sidney Janovich stepped up with moderate success.

Anchorage also used a 2nd-round pick on TE Gary Spark with the intention of also using him as a fullback. He had even transitioned as mainly a FB, changing his jersey from #85 to #45. But after it was discovered he also fumbled a lot, he was returned to his original position.

The fumble curse was also caught by star wideout Steve Campbell, who was brought in from the Jets to be Rashaan McLean's replacement. Season 15 was especially harsh on him, and he ended up catching only 23 balls for 556 yards and 5 TDs. He however rebounded, tallying 4000 yards and 50 TDs in his next 2 seasons, earning OPOY honors in season 16.

Anchors Austin Jackson (RG, 36 years old) and Kareem Cain (LE, 33 years old) are still at the top of their game, though the team is starting to think of bringing in replacements. RG Eldridge Stake has been used as the top extra lineman last year, while DE Dave Heatherington has been drafted with the 64th pick in the most recent draft.

After spending 10 years in Anchorage, LB Cody Muhammad has spent the past two seasons with the Eagles. He now has made 10 Pro Bowls and was DPOY once, the year he tallied 33 sacks and 5 interceptions.

CB Norman Janovich played 8 years with the Yetis, compiling 28 interceptions. He spent the last one in Green Bay after being traded for budding star LB Dusty Caldwell.

LB Dez Ratzloff was named DPOY 4 times in his 7-year tenure as a starter, compiling 358 tackles, 158 sacks and 11 interceptions. It is unsure where he will fit this year, but he is staying with the team. The team has already announced that Caldwell will start at LB/CB.

Another excellent draft pick was FS Meir Lester, already 5 years ago. He was picked 64th overall and went on to compile 553 tackles, 17 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries. Though he spent most of his time as the starting FS, he also subbed in as cornerback on safety-light packages.

Recap: Season 18 + playoffs

The Blizzard sailed to a perfect 16-0 record, while the Jets secured the 1st overall pick by going 0-16.

For the first time in this universe, a defensive-minded player has been named NFL MVP. Blizzard LB Dusty Caldwell, acquired from the Packers two seasons ago, finally adjusted to his new role. He amassed 66 tackles, 33 sacks, 8 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 safety and 3 defensive TDs. He was also used as an extra tight end in short yardage situations and had 14 receptions for 135 yards and 10 TDs.

2nd in the MVP voting, LB Reggie Christensen won the DPOY award with 90 tackles, 46 sacks, 3 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 safeties and 2 defensive TDs.

HB Stephen Cottrell won the OPOY award by gaining 100 yards on the ground and at least one TD in every regular season game. He finished with 2531 rushing yards and 25 TDs, as well as 313 receiving yards and 4 TDs.

In the playoffs, the Blizzard dispatched the Snow Cats 45-10 and the Octopi 45-7 before taking on the Packers in the final game.

The Yetis started slowly, but steamrolled the opponent 48-10 to secure the Lombardi trophy. Stephen Cottrell was named game MVP with 128 rushing yards and 2 TDs, as well as another TD on a bizarre play: safety Ryan Cobb appeared to give his team a momentum shift when he intercepted a pass in the endzone. He then made two steps and was hit by WR Shelton Radetsky, who make him lose the ball. Cottrell recovered for the TD.

Other players had great games. DT Ralph Rivers had 2 sacks and a fumble recovery for a 50-yard TD. Reggie Christensen had 3 sacks and a forced fumble. Dusty Caldwell had 3 tackles and 2 sacks. And on top of his forced fumble, Radetsky had a 30-yard TD reception.

Former Blizzard superstar Rashaan McLean retires

WR Rashaan McLean has announced his retirement after 15 seasons in the league.

His better years happened as a Yeti, where he had 5 straight seasons with over 2000 receiving yards and more than 20 touchdowns. He also excelled at kick and punt returning, kick coverage and added the occasional run or throw to keep things interesting.

Here are his full career stats, with a picture of him in his last season as an Anchorage starter. He did some mentoring in the next season, then went on to help John Fox's Falcons for the last 5 seasons of his career, making it twice to the conference championship.

The Blizzard already announced that he will be introduced into the team's ring of honor, and would be welcomed as a coach if that is what he wants to do.

Recap: Seasons 19-20

The Blizzard went perfect again, securing two more Super Bowls. It helped that Josh Bruce (6522 passing yards and 75 TDs in season 19) and Stephen Cottrell (2798 rushing yards and 25 TDs in season 20) both had legendary seasons.

We are giving a lot of additional information in the next updates, so please forgive us for being brief here.
