Contests!

Feel free to participate in any and all of these.

1) Guess the Blizzard's first scoring play of the season (player and yardage) and you could win an interview with a player of your choice.

2) Guess the SuperBowl winner and the score and you could win tickets for the entire next season (preseason, regular season and postseason).

HINT: The Cowboys have made the trip to the Super Bowl five years in a row, and the Bruce-less Blizzard will have a harder time to stop them. The Saints are also a force in the NFC. In the AFC, the Oahu Octopi are looking to rebound from a bad season, the Raiders should also be successful, and the entire AFC South will be looking to dethrone Anchorage.

3) Guess the pass/run sequence of the first 5 offensive plays of the season (example: pass-run-pass-run-run), and you could call the 1st offensive play of week 13 against the Cowboys.

HINT: The Blizzard have been VERY pass-first in the past seasons. However, they no longer have their star QB, and they drafted a running back first overall.

You can enter the contests as long as I have not posted the quarter-season update.

Week 6 update

The Blizzard sailed to a 6-0 record. After beating the Grudlies 41-20 on their turf on opening week, they narrowly beat the Giants 38-35. They then found their rhythm, crushing their 4 next opponents by large margins.

After their initial loss, the Grudlies won 5 straight and will be battling for a division tie against the Blizzard in their week 7 tilt. If Anchorage stays unbeaten, their biggest test will be against the Cowboys in week 13.

The Cowboys also slipped in week 1 (44-6 loss against the Snow Cats), but posted 4 straight wins and are coming off a bye week. The Saints are 5-0 and complete the quatuor of teams with one loss or less.

Rookie HB Shawn McNamara started slowly, rushing for a modest 47 yards against Toronto. But he gradually gained speed, and now has 604 rushing yards and 5 TDs, as well as a receiving TD. His best game was this week against the Patriots: 20 carries for 200 yards and 2 TDs, including this 74-yard TD after a broken tackle.

CB Antwaan Harper is making a case for DPOY and maybe even MVP. He has 37 tackles and 5 interceptions, including 1 TD. He added 2 touchdowns on receptions and 2 more on kick returns.

QB Lucius Stolte, in his first season as a starter, is impressive. He threw his first interception of the season this week, and already has 1680 passing yards and 26 TDs. He relied heavily on veteran tight end Hariman Jahoda, who posted 38 receptions for 636 yards and 9 TDs. Ryan Billups has just 16 receptions but 368 yards and 7 TDs.

Regular season update

After finishing the season 16-0, which included a narrow 38-34 victory against the Grudlies, and a 42-21 win against the Cowboys, the award winners were announced.

QB Lucius Stolte won his first MVP and OPOY by throwing for 4444 yards and 67 TDs against just 6 interceptions.

2nd in MVP voting, CB Antwaan Harper had 87 tackles and 9 interceptions. He added 194 rushing yards and 3 TDs, 654 receiving yards and 10 TDs, and 3 TDs on kick returns.

Image

2nd in OPOY voting, aging TE Hariman Jahoda had another strong season with 117 receptions, 2027 yards and 24 TDs.

Image

The DPOY was LB Craig Hayden, who had 39 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Shawn McNamara won OROY by rushing for 1791 yards and 15 TDs. He added 146 yards on 9 catches, with 1 TD.

CB Markus Hartley had an impressive rookie season with 29 tackles, 6 interceptions, a forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries. That answers the question about whether he has enough speed to play at this level.

Playoffs update

After going through the whole season without a punt return TD, Anchorage was rewarded for sticking with Ryan Billups. He returned two punts to the house (from 53 and 92 yards) against the Octopi. Billups completed his dreamy day by catching a 36-yard TD, rushing for a 35-yard TD, and throwing a 14-yard TD to Hariman Jahoda. The long-awaited matchup ended up as a rout. Final score: Octopi 2, Blizzard 48.

Again, Torry Douglas was a force for the Octopi, but he could not do everything by himself.

In what would become their last game representing Oakland (see my upcoming post), the Raiders started on top but were outlasted by the Blizzard. Final score: Raiders 20, Blizzard 41.

After dispatching the Cowboys in the NFC championship, the Saints were taking on the Yetis in New Orleans. The lead went back and forth and the Saints took a 4-point lead with 62 seconds to go, but this gave the Blizzard just enough time to engineer a last drive that culminated with a 17-yard pass to Ryan Billups. Final score: Saints 28, Blizzard 31.

Jason Stackhouse has been a dangerous dual threat all his career

Offseason update

Going into the offseason, the Blizzard didn't have many holes to patch. They were inactive in free agency, and selected the following players in the draft.

32. DE Irving Burton (78/23), Miami
64. OLB Tommy Mejia (80/23), Colorado State
96. TE Corey Jackson (81/23), UCLA
128. FS Daunte Jones (79/23), Purdue
138. LG Cornelius Jones (81/21), Maryland

Finally, in post-draft free agency, they signed powerful kicker (and undrafted rookie) Derek Wallick (86/21). He will get to learn from one of the best in the game, Jeffrey Harper.

Changes of scenery

In a flurry of relocations, the NFL has been partially remodeled, with franchises from the past re-emerging.

The drawing board started with the original NFL, with the relocations indicated by arrows. Only one new team (the Irving Centurions) has never had an incarnation in one universe or another.

Obviously, customs teams already in the league get to keep their roster. For example, the Blizzard, who was originally created from the Colts, are now the product of the Bengals' relocation. However, they retain the roster they already had, they do not take the Bengals' roster. Yes, it might be a little confusing to follow rosters for a little while.

AFC East
Bills -> Oahu Octopi
Dolphins -> Rebranding
Patriots
Jets

AFC North
Ravens
Bengals -> Anchorage Blizzard
Browns -> Winnipeg Snow Cats
Steelers

AFC South
Texans -> Toronto Grudlies
Colts
Jaguars
Titans

AFC West
Broncos
Chiefs
Raiders -> Vancouver Wasps
Chargers -> Mexico City Crawlers

NFC East
Cowboys
Giants -> Rebranding
Eagles
Redskins

NFC North
Bears
Lions -> Lincoln Wildcats
Packers
Vikings -> Augusta Argonauts

NFC South
Falcons
Panthers -> Rebranding
Saints
Buccaneers

NFC West
Cardinals -> San Juan Vortices
Rams -> Irving Centurions
49ers
Seahawks

Pictures of the new franchises will appear with the recaps, as the Blizzard faces them. This season, they will face the Colts (week 3) and Centurions (week 17) for the first time ever, as well as a pair of teams they haven't seen in a while: Titans (week 1) and Vortices (week 12).

Yeah, it was meant to be a great matchup but the Octopi came out flat. The 2 points were from trying to return a punt and being tackled in my endzone. I do some pretty dangerous moves when returning punts.
