Jose21crisis' Classic (Player vs. AI) Sliders

Postby jose21crisis » Tue Dec 05, 2017 11:12 pm

I decided to start working on the sliders for this game since a while ago. I started to check the forum for some sliders and I think I got a set that is realistic and provides good gameplay. This is a set for AI sliders, penalty sliders and Sub In/Out sliders, as well as my decision for using each set. These sliders are based from Moonbax's sliders.

This first set is designed for CPU vs. CPU or Coach Mode gameplay.

Code: Select all

Slider                         Human   CPU
QB Accuracy                       40    40
I feel this gives Elite QBs the accuracy they should have and allows them to throw it somewhat deep. Rookie QBs don't have that benefit.

Pass Blocking                     18    18
Exactly the same as Moonbax's sliders. I have no reason to change it. There is the occasional QB that has all day in the pocket, but that happens in the NFL too.

Receiver Catching                 48    48
The original amount, 37, cause so many drops. This one still has drops, but mostly if the receiver is not skilled or takes a hit as he gets the ball

Running Ability                   63    63
The same as Moonbax's. Seems good enough

Offensive line Run Blocking       18    18
Balanced it out with Pass Blocking

Defensive Awareness               40    40
Added 7 points compared to Moonbax's. Seems to give a better challenge to complete passes, and they react faster to the run direction.

Defensive line Knockdowns         17    17
Ball swats seem spot on to me.

Interceptions                      7     7
Despite this there was only 1 interception in my test game. From a MLB that jumps like if he was Michael Jordan

Defensive Break Blocks             9     9
Assuming you get a good block from a good blocker, you can get a good gain

Tackling                          29    29
Elusive and Power Backs and WRs are hard to tackle, but using 2 or more guys can make a difference

Fieldgoal Length                  57    57
With Moonbax's sliders, I found it impossible to pull off 50+ yard FGs. Even with 100 power. With this one I can pull 50+ FGs, but I have to get 90+ to make it happen. If the kicker has a lot of leg, maybe a 60 yard FG is possible.

Fieldgoal Accuracy                56    56
The same as Moonbax's.

Punt Length                       56    56
This one will see a change. As of now, there are close to 0 punt returns due to the fact that the returner has a defender in his face and is forced to Fair Catch. In theory, a longer punt length should allow more punt returns. The sacrifice, naturally, is a realistic punt average. It is a sacrifice I can make though.

Punt Accuracy                     56    56
Increased a tad.

Kickoff Length                    66    66
The same as Moonbax's

And this one is set for Player vs. CPU Classic moder.

Code: Select all

Slider                         Human   CPU
QB Accuracy                       40    50
I feel this gives Elite QBs the accuracy they should have and allows them to throw it somewhat deep. Rookie QBs don't have that benefit. The CPU QB Accuracy is 10 points higher. It seems to give them more awareness.

Pass Blocking                     40    50
Lower seems to make the pocket disappear far too quickly. The CPU slider is 10 points higher to give CPU QBs more time to look around, as they can be a tad slow.

Receiver Catching                 50    50
The default is good enough. Even top receivers will drop the football from time to time.

Running Ability                   60    65
The CPU needs a rad bit of help whe it comes to running. The difference is not that big.

Offensive line Run Blocking       30    40
Works good enough, the O-Line can block effectively enough, but enough guys come in, the run will probably be stuck in the backfield.

Defensive Awareness               40    81
Key stat here. Setting awareness the same seems to give the player an advantage, as the CPU responds way too slowly from what I gather. You still have to call the correct play.

Defensive line Knockdowns         40    99
CPU consisntently goes for the swat most of the time with this on 99.

Interceptions                      20     5
Awareness seems to increase Ints along with this slider. Since the CPU has 81 Awareness. 5 in Interception balances it out. 20 for Human is good enough. You'll get 0-4 picks a game.

Defensive Break Blocks             9     9
Assuming you get a good block from a good blocker, you can get a good gain

Tackling                          29    29
Elusive and Power Backs and WRs are hard to tackle, but using 2 or more guys can make a difference

Fieldgoal Length                  57    57
With Moonbax's sliders, I found it impossible to pull off 50+ yard FGs. Even with 100 power. With this one I can pull 50+ FGs, but I have to get 90+ to make it happen. If the kicker has a lot of leg, maybe a 60 yard FG is possible.

Fieldgoal Accuracy                56    56
The same as Moonbax's.

Punt Length                       56    56
This one will see a change. As of now, there are close to 0 punt returns due to the fact that the returner has a defender in his face and is forced to Fair Catch. In theory, a longer punt length should allow more punt returns. The sacrifice, naturally, is a realistic punt average. It is a sacrifice I can make though.

Punt Accuracy                     56    56
Increased a tad.

Kickoff Length                    66    66
The same as Moonbax's

The penalty sliders are exactly the same as Moonbax's sliders. Penalties are kind of light though. Also, each time I get a big gain, someone will hold, always. It is a miracle when it doesn't happen

There is an exception though, and that is the Intentional Grounding penalty. Using Moonbax's version which is 99 makes it so that as soon as the QB sees a blitz, he'll throw it away. using the value of 50 that I got makes the QB actually hold the ball a bit longer before deciding to throw it away.

Code: Select all

False St. 95
Holding 77
Facemask 95
Clipping 95
Int. Grounding 50
Rgh. Passer 99
Rgh. Kicker 99
Off. PI 95
Def. PI 99
KR/PR Int. 99

Finally, the Sub Out/In set.

Code: Select all

Sub. Out/In 75 / 90
One of the things that annoys me with the 88/93 set that Moonbax's recommends is that, at times, incorrect players will show up in incorrect positions. For example, a HB or TE will appear as a CB or FS. With this set, that doesn't happen. Players get Subbed Out when they are so tired that they are a liability (Tired players fumble the ball a lot, I know this for a fact.).

Additionally, this set introduces a strategic element when it comes to using Sub Packages. Do you leave your tired starter HB in there or do you swap him for the back HB? Do swap the tired Split End WR for the Slot WR?

If you have any comment or recommendation, post it so that I can find a way to improve these sliders

I played a game with this set, and decided to compare it to the real life game.

Code: Select all

Team               Q1   Q2   Q3   Q4   OT      FINAL
Steelers            7   10    3    6    0         26
Browns              7    0    7    9    0         23

Real game ended 21-18, so the point difference was pretty accurate. I could have won by more, but I got dumb.

Game Statistics:                 Steelers     Browns
First Downs                            24         10
Real Game                               16         20
The Browns found me hard to stop. They scored mostly because I got dumb in the second half, by calling too many blitzes

Third Down Conversions                  7          7
Real Game                     5          3
Got quite close. On this factors that there were slighty more third downs.

Third Downs                            15         16
Real Game                     13          12
Was pretty close on this one.

Third Down Percentage               46.7%      43.8%
Real Game               38%      25%
Naturally, with different numbers come different percentages

Fourth Down Conversions                 1          0
Real Game                     0          2
I went for it on fourth down in the 2nd quarter. The Browns never got close enough to a 4th down to try that

Fourth Downs                            1          0
Real Game                     0          2
Read above.

Fourth Down Percentage             100.0%       0.0%
Real Game               0%      100%
Read above.

Two Pt Conversions Made                 0          0
Real Game                     0          1
Two Pt Conversions Attempted            0          0
Real Game                     0          1
Two Pt Conversion Percentage         0.0%       0.0%
Real Game                     0.0%       100.0%
They decided against going for the 2 points in the 4th, mostly because it would not have worked.

Offense Redzone Num                     5          3
Real Game                     2          3
Spot on when it comes to Cleveland. I got a lot in the Red Zone.

Offense Redzone TDs                     2          1
Offense Redzone FGs                     3          1
Couldn't seem to find the info on this one.

Offense Redzone Percentage         100.0%      66.7%
Real Game                     100%       67%
Spot on.

Rushing Attempts                       42         20
Real Game                     17          25
Was close when it comes to the CPU. I had the ball all the damn day and I like to run the ball.

Rushing Yards                         168         29
Real Game                     35          57
I ran a lot more than the real Steelers did, Le'Veon Bell is just OP in FF/FI. Cleveland simply couldn't establish the run.

Rushing Average                       4.0        1.4
Real Game                     2.1          2.3
Not that accurate on this one.

Rushing TDs                             1          0
Real Game                     0          1
The exact opposite.

Passing Yards                         263        296
Real Game                     255          180
The reason why Cleveland got close, I didn't call appropiate pass protection. Close enough when it comes to my team though.

Passing Completions                    21         19
Real Game                     24          20
Was pretty accurate for both, however ...

Passing Attempts                       40         33
Real Game                     36          30
... this was as accurate as well, and that surprises me.

Completion Percentage               52.5%      57.6%
Real Game                     67%       67%
As for Cleveland, my defense could have been too good. As for the Steelers, I'm the kind of player that only throws to a primary receiver, need to quit the habit.

Passing Average                       6.6        9.0
Real Game                     6.9          4.9
Again, got dumb in the 2nd half. They torched me.

Passing TDs                             1          3
Real Game                     2          1
Close enough.

Offensive Pass Interceptions            1          0
Real Game                     1          1
Now I know that I shouldn't throw it over a MLB in Spy. They'll go Michael Jordan and pick the ball.

TOTAL OFFENSE                         431        325
Real Game                     290          237
My way to fix this will be to lower the Acc Play Clock from 18 to 16-15.

Defensive Pass Interceptions            0          1
Real Game                     1          1
Now I know that I shouldn't throw it over a MLB in Spy. They'll go Michael Jordan and pick the ball.

Punt Return Yards                      28          0
Real Game                     32          34
I'm going ask for help. The CPU simply can't return the punts with the set I have, other than throwing away a realistic punt average by kicking line drives that go farther away. Anyone can recommend something better?

Kick Return Yards                      78         12
Real Game                     4          14
I went for it on kickoffs a bit.

Punts                                   3          6
Real Game                     6          6
Managed to avoid punting the ball. The Browns, not so much.

Punt Avg                             41.7       45.0
Real Game                     40.2          35.0
Was somewhat close.

Fumbles                                 1          0
Real Game                     1          1
Damn it, Le'Veon

Fumbles Lost                            1          0
Real Game                     0          0
See Fumbles

Penalties                               4          3
Real Game                     13          4
Penalty Yds                            58         23
Real Game                     144          61
Far off the mark. No way to improve this? More Penalties for BOTH teams

Turnovers                               2          0
Real Game                     1          1
Welp.
TIME OF POSSESSION                  35:27      24:33
Real Game                     28:50      31:10
This is always a problem. I ALWAYS get all the freaking day with the ball.

Very interesting Jose, I am always interested in trying out sliders in the search of the "Holy Grail" of settings. I look forward to testing them.

This looks very cool. How are punts working for you? I've been using Moonbax's sliders, and while I only have a sample size of one game so far, it seemed like so many of the AI's punts just went sideways.

Also, what difficulty and how long are your quarters?

That's a problem with the FF/FI roster. The kick/punt's accuracy is affected by the Kicker/Punter's Awareness stat, which is too damn low. I eventually used MaddenAmp to raise Punter/Kicker Awareness by +20 points. There are still some sideway punts and some kickoffs out of bounds, I'm thinking about raising it a bit more..

As for difficulty, I'm using All-Pro and 15 Min Quarters. To endure that many minutes I use the Accelerated Play Clock and Calhoupe's Scripts to lower the Acc. Play Clock from 20 to 15.

The next game is kind of hard to compare, because when I played it the game was close, too damn close, the CPU wanted to win and I was uncapable to stop them in the first half. But i'll post the comparation anyway.

First I altered the Awareness, Knockdown and Interceptions this way.

Code: Select all

Defensive Awareness               33    33
Defensive line Knockdowns          9     9
Interceptions                      1     1

I'll probably return to the old set up, you'll see why.

Score
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

Team               Q1   Q2   Q3   Q4   OT      FINAL
Vikings             7   14    3    7    0         31
Steelers            3   14    0   19    0         36

Real Game was
Team               Q1   Q2   Q3   Q4   OT      FINAL
Vikings             0   3    6    0    0         9
Steelers            7   7    6    6    0         26

I wasn't ready for a "Establish Run" Philosophy team. I was expecting them to go West Coast, which they did for the 1st quarter, then they just pounded me with the run (while shutting down mine) and passed when I was waiting the run. Managed to get my game back together in the fourth quarter.

Game Stats: Above are Madden stats, below are the real game's stats, plus my comment
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

Game Statistics:                  Vikings   Steelers
First Downs                            19         26
First Downs                            14         22
This one was pretty close, I like that.

Third Down Conversions                  8          5
Third Down Conversions                  5          3
A bit more converted third downs.

Third Downs                            13          9
Third Downs                            15          13
A lot more third downs.

Third Down Percentage               61.5%      55.6%
Third Down Percentage               33%      23%
What can I say? Our coverages broke down on third downs.

Fourth Down Conversions                 0          1
Fourth Down Conversions                 0          0
I had to convert a fourth down out of desperation to complete the comeback.

Fourth Downs                            0          1
Fourth Downs                            3          0
Read above.

Fourth Down Percentage               0.0%     100.0%
Fourth Down Percentage               0.0%     0.0%
Read above.

Two Pt Conversions Made                 0          0
Two Pt Conversions Attempted            0          1
Two Pt Conversion Percentage         0.0%       0.0%
No 2 point conversion was tried in the real game. I tried one after the inconsistent kick meter went too slow and I missed the accuracy of an extra point, failed because Ben got hit as he threw the ball.

Offense Redzone Num                     3          5
Offense Redzone Num                     1          4
The way we both played landed us in the red zone a fair amount of times ...

Offense Redzone TDs                     3          5
Offense Redzone TDs                     1          2
... and we converted those Red Zone trips into points.

Offense Redzone FGs                     0          0
Offense Redzone FGs                     0          0
... and we converted those Red Zone trips into points.

Offense Redzone Percentage         100.0%     100.0%
Offense Redzone Percentage         100.0%     50.0%
Virtual Steelers were more efficient that the Real Steelers.

Rushing Attempts                       30         23
Rushing Attempts                       20         32
Exact opposite. They shutted down my runs, so I got forced to pass. They ran a fair lot more, mostly because they had the lead.

Rushing Yards                         108        101
Rushing Yards                         91        102
Despite that, we got really close to the rushing yards.

Rushing Average                       3.6        4.4
Rushing Average                       4.6        3.2
Hmm .... I guess our running was more effective than what I though.

Rushing TDs                             1          3
Rushing TDs                             0          1
Le'Veon Bell on the 5 yard line means trouble.

Passing Yards                         305        342
Passing Yards                         145        233
We went to the air a whole lot more than what I expected.

Passing Completions                    20         31
Passing Completions                    20         23
Spot on for the Vikings. I went to the air a whole lot more than what I planned.

Passing Attempts                       37         41
Passing Attempts                       38         35
Read above.

Completion Percentage               54.1%      75.6%
Completion Percentage               52.6%      65.7%
I can't believe I was so accurate. Anyway, this is the reason why I will return to the original values I had for Awareness, Knockdowns and Interceptions.

Passing Average                       8.2        8.3
Passing Average                       3.7        6.3
Heh ... bad pass coverage, that's my excuse.

Passing TDs                             3          2
Passing TDs                             0          2
Accidentally spót on for the Steelers ... I ... guess. Not so good for the Vikings

Offensive Pass Interceptions            2          0
Offensive Pass Interceptions            0          0
Those picks allowed us to win.

TOTAL OFFENSE                         413        443
TOTAL OFFENSE                         237        335
Very bad pass coverage, again. That's my excuse.

Defensive Pass Interceptions            0          2
Offensive Pass Interceptions            0          0
Read the Offensive version.

Punt Return Yards                       0          0
Punt Return Yards                       12          1
Punts out of bounds by the unaware CPU punter, and Fair Catches, also by the CPU, made this happen.

Kick Return Yards                      52         47
Kick Return Yards                      52         25
How I got that accuracy on the yards for the Vikings? Don't know. Got lucky.

Punts                                   44.2          36.2
BAD PUNTS by the CPU.

Fumbles                                 1          0
Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell fumbling the ball was bad enough ...

Fumbles Lost                            1          0

Was pretty accurate. I still had all the day with the ball. The real Steelers did too.

My next testing conditions will be by me using "Ask Madden" to get offensive and defensive calls, then me selecting a formation and play that is similar to the play "Ask Madden" gave me, but I prefer (Eg. "Ask Madden" gives me a Draw play out of the "Shotgun - 4WR" formation, I get a Draw play out of the "Singleback - 4WR" formation, because I hate running from the Shotgun formations.)

Very interesting game I had, using your sliders, (forgot to enable the scripts though...) Don't know if my game log can help you in your endeavor. Packers and Vikings, I had a case of bad play calls late in the 3rd and most of the 4th. I've got to fix that... Well anyway this is what I got.

Game Log Ends

Yes, that helps. Bradford apparently got picked off a whole lot, I had a similar game that I will post in a while. I was going it was because the QB has low awareness, which leads to more picks, but apparently Bradford has 86 Awareness, which is good. I might keep Knockdows as they are, but lower interceptions. What Bradford did? Did he tried to force the pass or you called the right coverage? Or got lucky (Luck is very important in Madden, I'm coming to believe that)?

I won't even bother to compare this game to the real game, partly because the Bears won that game, but mostly because it was a curbstomp battle for the Bears.

Bears               0    6    0    0    0          6
The Bears almost get a good start, but their kicker missed a 56 Yard FG. I give it to them, a 50+ Yard FG is hard. My kicker, Chris Boswell did got a 54 Yard FG, which barely crossed the bars, but I got lucky I hitted 98 Power and 58 Accuracy. It went downhill from there for the Bears since they missed the FG.

Trubisky not only had shitty stats, he is a rookie with low awareness (67) with a gunslinger style. He does have the arm to throw it down field, but has poor decision making. That got us 3 picks. He is a good QB, just not against our D. Also, see the sacks. That scared me a bit. My LOLB almost gets an NFL record with the sacks he got on the 3rd and 4th quarter, which is ...

This guy right here. Moats will probably get a raise on the next offseason. He was an average player in my eyes before that game.

Also, Le'Veon Bell fumbled the ball again. That one was my fault. He was tired, but I though "Just one more play for him, then I put him on the sidelines". Cue him losing the football. AB recovered the ball, and the game automatically swapped Le'Veon anyway.

I think I will keep the sliders as they are for now. Or maybe lower Interceptions to 5. I'm happy at how the sliders performed. The problem was that the Bears' Coach AI play calling was pretty bad after the 1st quarter.

Re: Jose21crisis' Classic (Player vs. AI) Sliders

Well actually, I have been playing a bit differently. I used a base 3-4 when Minnesota came out in a Shotgun with 4 WRs and was able to get Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix in a perfect spot for the pick on one of the INTs. I don't know if it is all luck as when I started going into the nickel and dime in the 4th my coverage suddenly was a little off, and Bradford got lucky scoring 21 points scarily fast. I will have to try a similar game plan against some other good Offenses, like the Patriots or the Saints to see if I can actually use my gameplan with these settings.
