I thought it worth mentioning, if no one has mentioned it yet, as it gave me hours of irritation.

Your new gamedata file does not interact with nor read from the playbooks you created, so if you make changes to any of them in an editor after you've made your gamedata file, the changes will not take effect until you redo your gamedata file.

Only use default Madden 08 pc gamedata. modded gamedat have crashed my system. Make copy of pc gamedata file. Open copy pc gamedata in dfr. Open ps2 m12 gamedata in second window. did zero-based because first file in dats didn't match! But extract file #1 of ps2 gamedata. replace file #1 in pc gamedata with ps2 version. Mark file "IS" compressed. Input PS2 Compressed size in PC window save and repeat for all books! Goes in \Docs\Madden NFL 08 folder.

1. Navigate to your Madden08\data0 folder and make a copy of gamedata.dat. That way, if you mess up your very crucial gamedata.dat file or want to come back to a clean gamedata.dat, you're safe.

2. Open the Madden datfile replacer program.

3. Select gamedata.dat (in Madden08\data0) as the dat file you want to edit.

4. Select the custom playbook file you want to insert.

5. Select a default playbook you want to replace. Those playbooks are 1-38 for defense PB (alphabetically by team name not city) or file 41-79 for offense PB (alphabetically by team name not city). Let's say you replace the "Trick Plays" PB with your custom PB - that would be file 79.

6. Click the "replace selected files with the following file" button.

7. In the File menu, click "save playbook." Your playbook is safely inserted.

8. Always place edited dat files in the "My Documents\Madden NFL 08" folder. (this tip courtesy of dawg317)

9. (if playing an online game) Now - and here's the important step - email that same gamedata.dat file to the person you're going to play with. They need to use the exact same one, or the game will crash.

10. Start your IP-IP spawn game, and select "Trick Plays" for your playbook.

So what playbooks are files 80-113? and do they showup in-game?

That was an interesting question, never noticed that there were other playbooks. Playbook #80 (zero-based arrays turned off) is an offensive playbook. Does Madden 08 have easy play? If it does I can't figure out how to select it. Rather than formation, the plays in this playbook are grouped by pass/run/deep pass etc. After decryption, you have to edit the playbooks with db editor in order to be able to open them with a playbook editor. I can't remember who sent me the instructions, it was so long ago. Here's the playbook (already edited) and the editing instructions for stock playbooks. I played a game with it and had no issues, worked perfectly fine.

I know Madden on the PS2 (which is what I'm editing) has easy mode so your saying maybe playbook 80 is what you get when easy mode is turned on? You think I can set it to appear in the playbook menu with the DB Editor sorta like I've done with Historic teams (replaced some teams; like the Cowboys who have an unnecessary amount of teams from the same time period, with newer teams like the 15 Broncos and 13 Seahawks and edited which franchise's historic team cycle they show up under in the team selection menu) or is it more you can only change what's already set to show up not add new slots?
