It is a combination of using moonbax's research for 2016 (Most effective when teams don't change head coach, defensive coordinator or scheme. So his research is useless when I get to a team like the Rams or Jaguars) and googling around to see what I get. What I have not do is do film study of each team, which probably I should do to get more accuracy on the schemes. Also, when people suggest stuff, I can put it in.

So for example. I know the Steelers ran the 3-4, didn't ran the Nickel 3-3-5 a lot and kept both their outside linebackers as Edge Rushers. The best playbook for them as a base was the Base 3-4 or the Pats playbook. Then I altered the player positions to fit what the team ran. So, on the Nickel 2-4-5, I removed both Defensive Tackles and placed the Defensive Ends instead.

For other teams, like ... say ... the Pats, I would need to research more what kind of sub packages run. I do know they run the 3-4 ... kind of ... they actually run a "Big" 3-3-5, with Patrick Chung serving as an inside linebacker. Teams that run a 4-3 Tampa 2 (Like the Cowboys) would use the Bucs 4-3 playbook as a base. I know the Cowboys swap their Defensive Line constantly, so each 4-3 version (Normal, Over and Under) would have a different line up for the D-Line.

The good thing is that moonbax's research is mostly accurate (Some exceptions apply, for example, the Steelers) and I can google around to see what I can get. The SB Nation's sub sites are pretty damn useful for this, and most (if not all) got a Film Room subsection which I can review to see which changes I can do.

EDIT: Also, a little change I did was alter the FG Block play AI tags to see if the CPU is more willing to block FGs.

It's been months since last post in this thread. Was wondering if you would do some of the Generic books? Preferably Balanced Offense and Defense.

Also would appreciate if you would post any other books you have finished. Thanks

Do you do this all manually or do you have a way of importing formations and plays from other playbooks? If you import, can you explain how? Thanks!

You need the Madden Playbook Merger, The Madden Playbook Editor and whatever offensive playbook you want to edit (There is a different method for D. Playbooks). I first locate a playbook that resembles the team's offense I'm trying to emulate (For example, for the Steelers I used the Patriots' Offensive Playbook). I open the playbook with the Editor, and edit some formations names to my liking (For example, Singleback - Normal Slot is Singleback -Doubles, Shotgun - 4WR becomes Gun - Spread), and edit some formations to have certain players on the field by default (The Gun - Spread Y-Slot should have a TE in the slot by default, I edit that play and the subpackages so that the TE is out there by default, and a subpackage can sub in a WR in his place). Finally, I edit some plays to make them more effective. For example, I alter the blocking in Draw plays so that the O-Linemen always run block (Just editing 1 Lineman assignment changes the rest) and speed up the handoff animation a bit.

Next, I use the Playbook Merger to add some additional formations from other playbooks. For example, the Pass Balanced play book has the Singleback - Trips Bunch set, and I want that on my playbook. I open the Playbook Merger, open my custom playbook, and open the Pass Balanced playbook, and import the formations I want, in this case, the Singleback - Bunch set. I make sure the assignments are correct with the Playbook Editor after importing.

Next, I create some additional formations that I know the team uses, but are not included in Madden, like the Pistol formation. This one is a bit tough, as pretty much every assignment and play needs to be created from scratch. The toughest part is getting the handoffs right during running plays/play action fakes.

Finally, I make sure that all plays have an AI tag, so that the AI can use the playbook if I ever assign it to them. I usually just check similar plays in the playbook so I can give them that tag. Additionally, I make sure that I setup proper audibles to each formation.

For defensive playbooks it is a bit easier. I have not tried importing formations. What I did was loading the defensive playbook in the editor, switching defensive players from certain positions to others (The best example is the Ravens playbook, where the "4-3 Under" is actually a 3-4 with Terrell Suggs in a 3 point stance, as opposed to the 2 point stance he uses in the standard 3-4 sets), change their initial animations (For example, in the 2-3-6 Dime, the Edge Rushers, in this case OLBs, usually are in a 2 point stance. So I change that to make sure they use the 2 point stance). After that, I change names, fix subpackages and then the playbook's done. I don't change assignments in defensive playbooks because it breaks more than one play.

Hey...jose21crisis..

I have noticed that yes the Patriots playbook looks alot like what the Steelers run ..but I also now thru 3 games Tomlin's is there also..the Bunch in the shotgun and single back. I have been using both cause I see plays and formations that they are using now. Watch the game on Sunday night and you'll see what I am saying.

Hi,i have been playing madden 19 on PS4 for a week now. The Madden 19 playbooks are huge! Most offensive books have 400+ plays and defense books have 200+ plays. I found that a simple export routes in the editor from the 08 books make it easier to update palys to the madden 19 books. I did a couple new formations for the raiders custom book i made. I want to import it to the game file. Does anyone know the how inport custom to book to overwrite raiders current book?

A while ago, I actually made a HUGE combined PIT playbook that had a lot of formation the team uses. While the CPU can't use it because it has no AI tags, it is very useful for Coach Mode an Classic Mode players. It basically combines formations from New England, Pittsburgh (Mainly the Singleback Bunch and Gun Bunch formations, as well as some I sets) and if memory serves, New Orleans (They had a nifty Gun 4WR, 1TE set, which I saw Pittsburgh employ a couple of times on SNF). The problem is that I had to create an empty book with a single formation with the in game editor, then start adding a lot of the other formations and plays using the Madden Playbook Merger.

As for merging PIT's and NE's playbooks, you could use NE's as a base, use the Playbook Merger (Which IIRC comes with MadModX) to open NE playbook and the PIT playbook, and import the formations from PIT to NE.
