Is it possible to play Madden 08 on a Chromebook using Linux terminal?
I tried using Wine but couldn't get it to work, does anybody know if this is possible or if the game only works on Windows?

Not via terminal, but the game does work on Linux. Install it in Windows (if you don't have a Windows PC, spin up a Windows VM), do all the config to get it running (replace exe, patch files, etc.), and then go to the install path (presumably c:\program files_x86\Madden08 or something like that) and zip the entire folder to an archive.
Move the zip over to your Linux machine, extract it, and then add mainapp.exe to Steam. From there, set compatibility to a proton version (doesn't seem to matter which) and launch the game. With Steam input the controller will work properly as well. I have the game installed on my Steam Deck and previously had it running on my Linux desktop as well.
If you plan on modding, after launching it with Steam, go to the steam path for compatdata, sort by creation/modified date and the number path will be at the top if it's the last thing installed. Make a note of that folder path. Then in there, browse to ./pfx/c_drive/users/<user>/My Documents path and mod it like normal in the documents folder for the game.

I extracted the Madden 08 iso onto my Steam Deck, added mainapp.exe to Steam and when I launch it under a selected Proton, it says "No CD/DVD-ROM drive found". When I try to launch Madden08.exe, I see Vince Young, and if I click on Play or Installation, it says "Please insert CD/DVD 1 in drive Z:". Any ideas? Thank you!

I don't know if it's possible to play Madden 08 on the steam deck.

replace the mainapp.exe with the No CD mainapp.exe and see if that works.

I actually got it running well on the Steam Deck but I imagine there'll be limitations. I doubt I'll get the cal scripts to work on it, but hoping to at least get rosters etc running.

I recently purchased a Steam Deck and I am going to give it a shot.

Thanks for this, I was able to get it working on my Steamdeck without many issues. I got some mods running on it too by using that path. The jerseys don't look quite right, but everything else seems to be functioning well. Now I can put it in a dock and play M08PC on my big TV!

Yeah for me it runs well but the jerseys are a bit weird- the white has a grey tint on it.
