Just wondering if roles actually have any effect on gameplay or are they just a representation of underlying stats?

Like does heavy hitter actually cause more fumbles? Are deep threat receivers actually faster?

Most of the Player Weapons (The Yellow icons that appear during actual gameplay) are just representations of the player's stats, with a few exceptions:
  • Pass Rusher: +1 AWR, +1 STR, +1 ACC.
  • Run Stopper: +1 AWR, +1 STR, +1 TAK
  • Defensive Enforcer: +2 TAK.
  • Shutdown Corner: +1 ACC, +1 SPD, +1 AWR, +1 AGI.
  • Possession Receiver: +1 CTH, +1 AWR.
  • Franchise Quarterback: Starting OL gets +3 PBK, +2 AWR. WR #1 to #4 (In the Depth Chart), starting HB and starting FB get +3 CTH, +3 AWR. TE #1 to #4 get +2 AWR, +3 CTH, +3 PBK.
  • Feature Back: Starting OL and TE#1 get +3 RBK, +2 AWR

The effects of the roles vary. You can find them here: The Effects of Player Weapons and Roles in Player Ratings
