Need a crash course in roster building

Have a trip to Hawaii in a week. Coupled with the long plane ride and some nights of chilling out on the computer, need something to do. Would like to build a roster. Have built some of the more successful draft mods in past years (09/10) but need to know what tools are used for roster mods.

Looking for a crash course (tools, tips/tricks, general guidance) on roster modding.
