It's mostly important for online play. I'm not exactly sure which files it updates, but if you can get it, you should. Did you try the "patch_ead.exe" version? I believe that's for the download version. If that doesn't work, try the other version. If both don't work, there's a post on this forum where the files were uploaded as a zip, but I can't recall where. You'd have to search for it.

Thanks so much for this. I have a PS4 but recently started playing some RPGs on my off-the-shelf Toshiba laptop. I need sports and remembered that I'd purchased Madden 08 from Amazon back in 2014. This modding guide will certainly help get my game updated with current rosters so I can get a nice franchise going on my laptop.

In the OP there is a link for the game patches. I was wondering what the difference was between the patch.exe and patch_ead.exe?

The second one is, I believe, for the download version. I am however uncertain.
