I don’t know if this has been discussed already but is there a way to have a 7 team playoff in Madden 08 or no?

No, not for PC version of Madden 08, but the PS2 version does have a Tournament game mode where you can have 4, 8 or 16 teams tournament!

There is a League Shrinker Utility for 08 PC located in the Files Section.

Has anyone looked at cheatengine like what's used with Calhoupe's Scripts?

Unfortunately none of us are nearly as talented at that subject as Calhoupe is, and it seems like he's gone MIA.

Harry97 has made some serious progress using Cheat Engine with NCAA 06 PS2. Maybe he can provide some details!

My guess is that cheatengine would be the key. I tried just using the schedule table inside of the franchise file using db editor, but that didn't work. The franchise schedule file details the games in week 17 (i.e. the wildcard round) but my guess is you would need something like cheatengine to guide the correct seeds to the correct game.

This might be possible by eliminating bye weeks and making week 17 a playoff round as the schedule exists.....

I can definitely add teams/games to the schedule however I wasn't able to get the game to choose the correct teams.....

What I did is this: I added 2 strings to Week 17 is actually Week 18 because the strings start at 0 and is the (Wild Card Round) I will decide the teams. When the season ends. I will test it when I get closer. I am on Week 11. I really believe it will work.
